One or two more ships for this year, then

I'll probably pack it in. Still interesting and enjoyable, but I've maybe been at this long enough.

The last pic is my wife trying to set fire to her brandy soaked plum pudding, which leads to lighting everything on the table (except the candles) but this time it went pretty well. Hard to see the blue flame, but at least we still have a home to live in
for another year.

Congrats!...if you decide to 'call it in'
Keep in contact with your co-workers and the transition will be easy.
I've been out for 6 years now and every year gets better.

Great pics, as usual, YP! Love the cake pic!

Can you elaborate a little on the ship there? Is it coming in to pick up a load? Load of what? How long to get loaded?

I know you've gone into this a bit before so sorry to bug you again. I'm always interested in the details behind the pics.

Thanks again!

Looks to me that they are unloading grain/feed. The clam shell is dropping something into the hopper which then flows into the truck trailer to be hauled to a "farm" somewhere. The ship is riding high so must be almost empty?

Do you ever get to wander around the ship? It’s not the Yorktown I’ve seen several times, but would be cool to wander around.

What about the ships crew? Do they get to disembark? Where do they go?

This ship is off-loading fertilizer, going to farms all across the maritimes.

I do get to board these ships, but not as much as I once did. They are all interesting, safe, with mostly friendly crewmembers. Crew gets to go ashore if and when they want. We've finished (yesterday) working this particular vessel, but they are staying here to have some of their safety equipment re certified. (In other words, they are staying put for the new years celebrations.)
Thanks for lookin' guys!

Jeeze, Dennis. If there are no pics of bulk carriers alongside, these guys are going to have to be satisfied with pics of your cool old hot rod, your buddy's builds and scenery of PEI.
Should I take up a collection for them now?

Best

We'll have to work something out.

Speaking of new builds, my friend's Thames Hot Rod is really something. He's almost finished it but now has taken on a '61 Corvette that is going to be really something also. I kinda eased up on the pics a bit. I like mid year vettes best but this '61 is going to be real nice. Get pics later.

regards,
D

I think my favorites are '55 - '62 but I do like anything older than about 71 or 72 when they still had steel bumpers.

Thanks for the pics!
I've enjoyed every one of your posts. Seeing life outside of SoCal is interesting as often it's a whole different world than our microcosim of life here in LALA Land.

I'll have to get permission to post pics of my brother's '63 'vette build. Hopefully he'll get it finished up one of these years. I'm already tired of pushing the chassis around at his new place. Here's a sneak peek.

Again, thanks for taking the time to photo and post your side of life here.

C2’s FTW.

I’m amazed at some of the reasonable pricing on BaT for C2’s.

There's a surprising amount of liquid water visible in those last several photos.

Was something done to enable that thing to leave more easily?

The coast guard ice breaker (see picture) smashed it all up!

Ah, cool, and that explains the heavily angled nose on it right above the water line, right? The ship climbs up on top of the ice and then cuts down through it.

On a vaguely related note, I thought these articles about a ship freezing into the arctic ice for a year to study flow patterns were interesting.
