Billybek and Unclebilly you have a pm. Need diesel mechanic

Damn injector spunk a leak near the top of the injector. Made it to Calgary fine without issues but like to get it fixed before it burns the injector and throw me into limp mode in the middle of nowhere on my drive home. Talked with a guy in Butte and he was not able to help due to holiday and lack of parts.

First of all, Welcome to Alberta!

This is crappy news - sorry to hear this.

I used to deal with GCL but they are no longer in business.

Dagger (I am 99% sure it was them) is another shop that I have dealt with once and it was OK.

If you want to do this yourself, you are welcome to my shop and I can loan you my truck for running around. The issue is that I won’t be here - I’m heading to the mountains for my son’s ski racing until the night of the 29th. I’m only back for one day before heading back out again.

I have everything you need to change the injector, including the injector tool for the duramax and my duramax is partially torn apart in the shop for reference.

My number is 403 998 5006 and I won’t have much cell coverage during the day (after 9:00).

I might know a guy who could do the work at my place but would need to make some calls to see if he is available.

WOW , talk about a helping hand. The only way this could get better is if unclebilly was to make coffee before he left.

I haven’t heard anything back from Jeff yet.

My wife is at home and can help get you set up (and make you coffee) if you choose to use my shop etc. I also know of 2 diesel mechanics that could help you with this if you choose to do it at my place and need some help.

I have no cell coverage here at the hill but do have wifi at the lodge and will check in periodically. I can get text messages from an iPhone (if you are so equipped).

I will PM my wife’s cell number.

Thanks, I just got up about an hour ago. Been driving and finally got some good sleep, yapping with relatives until 2 last night. Unclebilly, you are the greatest. Thanks for offering me your truck. My truck runs fine. The diesel wrench at Butte told me the o ring or gasket is leaking. I am told I have trip apart the top end to get it out. my truck is an 06 also.

My duramax is an 03.

You are welcome to use my other truck for a few days or to run around to get parts if you need it.

I have everything you need to pull this except that my injector puller is for an 01-04 duramax. It looks like the 05-11 engines use a different puller that looks identical to mine.

There is a local diesel truck group on Facebook (Alberta Coal Rollers). I could ask on there and probably find you the right puller. It looks like you can pull the injectors on the LLY engines with a flat screw driver or a little pry bar (I have lots of either to choose from).

The offer stands to use my shop and whatever else you need. Call my wife and let her know if you are coming.

I know nothing about diesels but if you need anything else I am here as well. I would take Scott up in his offer.

Wow...

This is the Pelicanparts forum at its best, just amazing. It’s like being a part of a worldwide fraternity of extremely helpful and generous people. I’ve experienced it myself, several times but it still amazes me.

If I was Jeff, I’d take unclebilly up on his offer. Fuel leaks on high pressure TDI diesels are bad news and could possibly get worse at the most inopportune time. Maintenance is key, especially when far from home in the winter. Good luck.

I want to say a big thank you to my Pelican brothers up here in Calgary. Unclebilly, again, you are a true class act for openly letting me use your tools and garage even though we have never met. I own you guys a big one. You guys even make it down to LA, beer and dinner is on me.

I lucked out. One of my cousin's neighbor's son is a Cummins mechanic. He was nice enough to come out today and help me with the leak. Thank goodness its was a simple fix and took him about an hour on the driveway. It would have taken me 3 hours with my luck.

Driving home west through Vancouver and come down the coast after the new year.

I’m glad it all worked out for you.

As it happened my daughter had a huge wreck on the ski hill this afternoon and had to be transported to Children’s Hospital tonight. My wife is there with her as I head back home for a sleep in my own bed and to do chores in the morning.

We are very lucky she has no head or spinal injuries or worse. She is going to be ok but will miss most or all of her race program this year due to a fractured pelvis. Her helmet saved her.

Unclebilly, I am sorry to hear about your daughter's accident. Wishing her all my best wishes that she gets back to racing again soon!

Look and Billybek and everyone who helped out, this is just a great story with a great ending.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
