My 2020 weight loss challenge.
As I get older (51.5) it gets harder and harder to keep off the weight.
I'm @5'10" and nearly 230 as I start 2020. This is not okay with me so I am going to do something about it. And you can read along or join in if you'd like! One of the reasons for posting this is accountability. Just by 'saying it out loud' I've started the first step. Now the work begins. First, I love sweets. I really enjoy a few cookies and a glass of milk before bed. This habit has got to change. I've found the best way for me to do this is by getting rid of sweets all together. I can't just have one. And then I sit at a desk all day. I need to add some regular activity. At least a walk. Something... At least 20 minutes every day. For this year I've set two weight goals. Be under 200 by my birthday in July, and still be under 200 at Thanksgiving. So here we go. My first step to reaching my goal: 1-Jan 228.20 Thanks for listening. |
We should create a pool of Porsche stuff to the winner! I'm trying to do the same, at 31 weight doesn't come off as easy.
Looking at my goals last year, I've dropped maybe 5 lbs from 220 to 215. I'm 5'11" Good luck to all! Sent from my Pixel 3a using Tapatalk |
I'm 5'10" 207, down from 238 after knee replacements. My goal is 20 in 2020, at which point I'll be 6'4" 239.;)

Jeez, wait until you get to your 60s, try getting that weight off then.
Three years ago, when I was 65, my instructor and I were trying to get into my 1984 911 equipped with a full roll cage and Sparco seats at CMP. Both of us huffed and puffed our way in, in about 10 minutes. After the session, getting back out was even worse. I weighed 208 at 5'8", otherwise known as obese. Started the diet that evening. I got down to 180 in a year, but then blew out 5 discs and had to have 3 spinal surgeries. Just this month, I have been able to start exercising again and today I'm at 173. My waist went from 38" to 35". My goal is 150 and my 32" waist again like I had when I was 30. |
71T Targa. I got rid of almost all sweets for two reasons: first, I wanted to lose weight in my gut & second, I found out my blood sugar was high at 6.6 at the time (now at last test it was 6.2). You have to face your craving on two fronts: number one, get all of it out of your house and don't let yourself eat any outside of the house; number two, each time you see something and you're tempted, tell yourself you're absolutely not allowed. I can say after some time, your craving for sweets will diminish to almost zero, & if you eat something sweet, you'll feel bad about it later (even physically) and the taste won't be satisfying. It takes some time and will power, but after some time you'll feel much better and eating something sweet will make you feel a bit queasy.

Meat is out of my diet. I have more energy and don’t feel lethargic after a meal.
I think the key is eat less. More good stuff. And fasting. Fasting has many benefits. The 5 day fast is tough. But really kick starts your immune system. Try this book... https://www.strivediary.com/the-longevity-diet-book-review/ https://prolonfast.com/?aic=DDCBNVH&utm_campaign=referralcandy_51508_1574 896686&utm_source=referral&utm_medium=affiliate&ut m_term=DDCBNVH |

I'm 52 and 5'10" and 182. My key is I only eat meat and vegetables for lunch and dinner, no processed foods ever. I also have 3-5 pints of ice cream per week, I might be a little slimmer if I only had one or 2 but what's the fun in that. And a lot of chocolate. And berries with heavy cream.
Net net, just eat actual food. Nothing that comes in a box. |
66 years old here. 5'10"
Weigh 155...same weight as in high school Eat whatever I feel like. Metabolism is a big factor. |
^^^ that's what I weighed as a lightweight rower in college doing Harvard stadiums.

Just turned 67, same height but 147. Somehow I've lost about 8 pounds since I retired, my 31" jeans are falling off. Never in a gym but am outside a lot. No sweet tooth though. |
Join a crossfit gym and start intermittent fasting. Both will do absolute wonders.
|
Check your ego at the door if you do CrossFit. I didn’t so I’ve been off rehabbing. Can’t wait to go back though.

Do not eat before 0900 or after 1800 and you will see weight come off. Exercise early in the day, get adequate sleep, done

I’m starving right now :) helping my wife with the low carb diet. I am looking to loose 25 lbs.
Just trying some low carb wines tonight to see if I’ll miss my red wine. Clearing out our gym this weekend to get back at it. Good luck! |
Funny timing. Around Thanksgiving, I decided to go from 201, back to 162, the weight I was when I was racing bikes and in great shape. I decided no sweets except at christmas and new years dinner, fruit for breakfast and lunch and a reasonable dinner. So far I'm down 10 pounds and it's been pretty easy. Almost forgot - I'm riding my bike on a trainer 1-2 hours a day. Signed up for Zwift and the miles go quickly.
