Is anyone considering the Alfa Romeo Giulia?

I am waiting on this car. I hope it is as good as reported. it has been ages since my last alfa and this will check the boxes for me as an exciting dd...I hope.

Actually saw a 4c on my way to work this morning. Sounded and looked pretty damn good, but surprisingly small.

alfa pissed me off a couple years ago....won't be buying one. was on the list of initial buyers for the 4C when it came out, almost a year before it was released. they told me the price, with a purchase contract. I gave them a deposit. when the car finally came in many months later, they informed me the price was going up 20K due to "market adjustment."

I laughed and asked for my deposit back. the dealer has called probably 5 times in the last year, asking if I'd like to buy one again. they're having a REAL hard time selling 4C's. why buy a 4C when you can buy a new Miata (much better car) or a lotus if you want to have an oddball car?

the Giulia, while it looks and sounds nice, will depreciate like a rock, and surely be plagued by horrible build issues.

I see a couple of 4Cs around here from time to time. Very cool little car.

I've got a coworker that's got a major crush on the Giulia, but I suspect if he gets one, he'll be pretty unhappy with it.

I'm assuming they aren't going to have Toyota/Honda reliability.

I understand and agree with your thinking. I have not nor will I succumb to the Ferrari "msrp plus" model. if they play those games with me they will also lose me. I have owned 6 alfas in my day and by the sound of things, this car will be a beast. it is very sexy for a 4 door and clearly has the "on paper" numbers to support the performance promise.

build quality is said to be nice...but we will see? I have my fingers crossed but share your sentiments I assure you.

why do think he will be unhappy? is he an m3 or amg 63 type person? if so, I can see where bmw or mb fit and finish could be lacking. from a indicative performance standpoint, the alfa would seem to be all there and then some.

in my heart, I want it to be a world beater but am trying to manage my expectations.

if money was absolutely no object, I do think the new alfa is dead sexy, with performance and SOUND to match. and a real 6 speed. I hope it's a great car, and I'd love to drive one, but I'm very gun shy of it. ...plus the games they pulled with me just left a sour taste in my mouth.

I think the problem is/was....the alfa's are being sold by fiat dealers. they were looking at it from a "fiat" mentality, instead of an "alfa" mentality. they were expecting more fan-boys to jump on the 4C when it came out, and it didn't happen. complete arrogance on their part.

the 4C has also been plagued with transmission issues, already. ever notice how many 4C's are for sale with under 1500 miles?

I think he drives a Honda or Lexus, and has had it for quite a while. I think this would be his first foray into the world of premium brands. I think he may be surprised by and have an issue with cost and reliability issues.

I see. and yes, it would represent a big leap as the alfa has a fairly exotic lump to service...think Ferrari/Maserati service intervals and pricing. not for the faint of heart I assure you.

the factory warranty will be interesting to see? 12mo /12k miles? 24mo/24k? 36mo/36k??

I had business in Amalfi Italy about 6 weeks ago and down next to the beach Alfa Romeo was having a marketing event with available test drives. If there is anywhere on earth where you are likely to find interested buyers it is in Italy in a wealthy area.

Now the whole test drive idea there was ridiculous because if you google maps the area there is only one road that is jammed with shops and tourists in season and some spots only one car can pass-It is very narrow and dangerous with steep hills and blind turns, pretty much the opposite of a good location for a test drive.

I like Alfas and was thinking about the 4C when it first came out but the lack of interest really surprised me. I see cars but few drivers.

I'm sure Embraer is right though, sketchy reliability will likely send the price through the floor in a few years, kinda like the quadraporte.
I don't know if I can wait for the value to drop. I need a car for the east coast that I can drive and enjoy. I have always been hoping alfa would return...maybe this will be a great car!

No. Nice looking car, though.

EDIT: on second thought, after another look at it, maybe this would be on a short list, if the depreciation is as expected on the used market.

Great looking and performing car, but I wonder if customers will tolerate questionable reliability and service for a non-exotic car. It's one thing for a Ferrari to be a temperamental toy, but a family sedan is typically held to higher standards.

I will hold high hopes that the car is both well built and offered at msrp. if it is as good as we hope, I will probably buy one and report to the group. it does look like an engaging machine and distinctly Italian. I am weak when it comes to alfa romeo....dates back to my father's bringing home his 1975 alfetta gt in gorgeous plumb!!!

a bit more to it than the wind tunnel. the heart of any alfa lies in the engine bay. this one should be seriously impressive to begin with and just wait until the tuners get to play with the ECU. think in terms of 550 - 600 bhp. entertaining driver to say the least!

the QF package is quite a bit more distinctive and detailed.
