May have got a little dust in my eyes while watching this :(

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cRSABqBjkU

Williams were my first client, felt very comfortable working for them and hopefully one day will do so again

bkreigsr 09-06-2020 03:59 PM

So, did anyone notice the shot of Ross Brawn talking with Toto Wolff on the grid.

....'so Toto, can you think of a way to make the race more interesting, perhaps have Hammie screw up a 'box, box, box' message?.....'

.....'Sure Ross, give me a couple of laps....'

'Good plan Ross, it worked......

WOW!

One great race a year.

You are killin' it F1!

Noah930 09-06-2020 05:25 PM

Wow! Congrats to P1!

I loved the post-race interview. He thanked the team. Said they gave him his first ride in F1. They gave him his first podium. And now they gave him his first win. That's a lot of humility and gratitude. Kudos.

Rtrorkt 09-06-2020 06:31 PM

The GAS win was so great. The race with SAI, STR and the rest was great to watch. All racers for sure. For those HAM haters he proved to me today he is a racer. From 30 seconds behind the pack he finishes 7th, 2 behind BOT. The commentary said the Mercs couldn't pass due to their aero. HAM proved that wrong. I will put him up against the best there ever was. Head down get the job done and have fun along the way. His tribute to GAS was classy.

BOT could pass only one car. Swamped at the start to 6th. In my view, it proves HAM is in a league of his own.

so let's declare HAM world champ before the next race. Then put him at the back of the grid and enjoy the racing at the front and see if HAM can pull himself up through the pack. I would think he can

dan79brooklyn 09-06-2020 06:45 PM

Oh Man..what a race! Great to see some fresh faces on the podium. Gasly was so stoked to win.
Hamilton again showed his determination and talent!

Heel n Toe 09-06-2020 07:17 PM

My plan: watch the scheduled 11 PM rebroadcast on ESPN2

My reality: to be disappointed because the US Open is what's showing on ESPN2

:(

Heel n Toe 09-06-2020 08:29 PM

Starting that 11 PM rebroadcast NOW at 30 mins. after midnight.

GH85Carrera 09-07-2020 05:22 AM

ESPN loves to cut off the interviews and other parts of Sky Sports broadcast and play a basketball or baseball game that was played 30 or 40 years ago, or a Jr. High scrimmage badminton game. They seem to hate the real sport of F1, and love to broadcast silly tiddly winks games or a poker game.

For Anthoine (hubert) - For Helmut (Marko).

Love it. I was torn on the last lap between my liking of Sainz and having Gasly stick it to Redbull. Happy either way...

Reverse Grids

Martin Brundle was going on and on during the race about reverse grids. I think they are a bad idea because then you have teams trying to set the slowest lap to get to the front. Even worse, qualifying might devolve into a ****show like elimination qualifying (remember that?) where everyone just sits in the garage and refuses to go out because any time set would automatically be the fastest.

I think it could work with one major modification. Run qualifying exactly like it is run now. The difference is that when qualifying is over, spin a roulette wheel or some other random event where there is a 25% chance of a reverse grid. Any higher, and some teams will opt to sit in the garage for all of qualifying and take their chances (Williams would probably do it for the rest of the season). I think it would be enough to keep teams on their toes AND not mess up qualifying too much.

Noah930 09-08-2020 11:35 AM

Yeah, you can't run reverse grid qualifying when the teams know it's going to be a reverse grid. Has to be some sort of lottery/roulette wheel thingie.

Either that or random sprinklers. Or maybe those giant trackside plants that eat cars like in Mario Kart.

the plan is a short race Saturday to set the reverse grid order

Not exactly...

The plan is to run a couple of sessions of normal qualifying. The results from those sessions will establish the grid for a "sprint" race on Saturday, for which the starting grid will be reversed. I.e., whoever wins the pole in the normal qualifying sessions starts at the back for this "sprint" race. The results of this "sprint" race will set the grid for Sunday.

Either way, it's an absolutely horrible idea.

javadog 09-08-2020 01:33 PM

Well, if they impose something like that, or any of the other brain dead ideas that have been discussed, they can kiss off any chance of me ever watching it again.

They should just stick with what they've got, or there wont be any real teams left.

Here are some pics of a real team imohttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1599601406.jpg

Perez to leave RP. (No surprise.)

Motor racing: Perez to leave Racing Point at end of F1 season

Maybe to Haas?

matthewb0051 09-09-2020 01:18 PM

I've been a huge Williams fan since I began watching in the mid 90s. It is a shame that the family are no longer at the helm. It was great to see privateers like Sir Frank, Sir Jackie, and Eddie Jordan mixing it up with the big manufacturer teams. Haas remains but it doesn't feel the same.

My fav souvenir was worn to Hockenheim in 2002 and Nurburgring in 2004. Don't remember if those were the Euro or German GP's. I even had to explain myself to the vendor when I was purchasing a Schumacher Weltmeister hat in red while wearing brother Ralf's hat.

Now official Vettel has signed with RP for 2021 and beyond . I feel bad for Perez but F1 is a business and tough decisions have to be made . I wish him well and maybe we will see him at Haas .

Fairly sure Haas or Alfa would be glad to have Perez... NOt sure sure Perez would enjoy the current Haas or Alfa ;-)

legion 09-10-2020 09:38 AM

When is Hamilton going to resign with Mercedes? I can't see him not re-signing. (Seriously, who is going to give him a better car?) I can't see Mercedes not re-signing him. (Seriously, where are they going to get a better driver?) He's pretty much a shoe-in for the title again next year. (Based on the fact that development is frozen for next year.)

Is 8 enough for Hamilton? Will the change in engine formula for 2022 finally reshuffle the deck a little?

Noah930 09-10-2020 10:32 AM

Haha. I read that as resign (quit), instead of re-sign (sign again). I got a totally different meaning to your post when I first read it.

legion 09-10-2020 10:34 AM

This is why you proof-read. :) Edited the post for clarity.

I would not be at all surprised to see Hamilton leave Mercedes at the end of this rules cycle. Especially after he wins his 7th, and likely his 8th championships. There are murmurings that he would like to go to Ferrari someday. There seems to be some sort of a "fatal attraction", some burning desire to drive for the Scuderia within the F1 ranks. Unfortunately, lately, that has proven to be the downfall of a few very good drivers...

legion 09-10-2020 12:16 PM

Why the hell would Hamilton ever drive for Ferrari? They used political maneuvering to screw him out of the WDC his first year in F1 and they've been a burning pile of excrement ever since--well except for a brief flash that disappeared after a secret settlement. They've killed the careers of three former world champions with ruthless efficiency. Oh, and there's the Italian media that treats you like a savior one weekend and a pariah the next. Why would anyone driver for Ferrari?

That is the question of the day, isn't it? I have no answer. I'm as baffled as you are. But the lure seems to be very real - we have seen top drivers, at the height of their careers, who can very much "write their own ticket" - choose to go to Ferrari. Even when every indication is that they are not and will not be competitive, even when they should know better. I just don't get it. But they do it - time and again.

Deschodt 09-10-2020 01:53 PM

Why not ? It's the oldest (aside from Alfa) and most prestigious brand in the world. Every F1 driver ever asked more or less said if Ferrari calls, you go... What would another 1 or 2 titles prove for Hamilton ? Not much... Best car, "anyone could win in it", etc... If he could help bring Ferrari back though, wow... But that's not happening, he's staying put or making music, but not going there...

yellowperil 09-10-2020 02:51 PM

Doesn't everyone want to drive for Ferrari ? I know I'm waiting for a call, and it better
be soon, I can't wait for ever.

Captain Ahab Jr 09-10-2020 02:55 PM

Every F1 driver would love to drive for Ferrari!

Ferrari is F1 and F1 is Ferrari, other teams come and go but Ferrari have always been there, through thick and thin

This weekend is the teams 1000th GP which is an amazing achievement, specially fitting as it's at Mugello the teams home track

Hamilton is smashing the record books so he won't leave Mercedes for Ferrari, not just yet, maybe once he has all the records he may go to Ferrari

Just for fun I've recently been compiling my own F1 record list  Quite shocked  didn't realize how close I am to having been part of helping to achieve one of everything

Rtrorkt 09-10-2020 04:15 PM

guess its like the scene in Rush where Hunt is talking passion and Lauda is talking risk. Those with the passion for F1 under the Ferrari mystique. I for one, don't but they are not calling me to drive

stealthn 09-11-2020 06:38 AM

Next year will be interesting for sure. I hope RP treats Vettel like he should be treated, very disappointed with Ferrari the way they’ve treated him recently.

Btw, how do you reduce downforce by 10%?

Congrats Capt.

GH85Carrera 09-11-2020 06:52 AM

So the 1,000 race for Ferrari is this weekend. It will take a total miracle for them to get on the podium, and winning is about the same odds as winning the lottery with powerball.

sammyg2 09-11-2020 07:02 AM

IMO, Alfa should give the boot to over-rated Giovinazzi and replace him with Perez.

(edit: and bank the huge mexican sponsor money perez brings with him).

GH85Carrera 09-11-2020 07:34 AM

Perez is a dang good driver, and it is a shame he is stuck with only the back marker teams as a choice. I hope HAAS can grab him and maybe with a decent driver HAAS can do a little better.

legion 09-11-2020 07:34 AM

I'd rather see Perez go to Haas and see Grosjean retire. Grosjean is a good guy and all. I really like him as a person. He's just not ever really going to move an F1 team forward.

Here's a fun thought: who will be the first WDC after the Mercedes/Hamilton era of dominance ends? I could see either Hamilton retiring in 2022 or Mercedes having serious competition starting in 2022. My bet it will be a surprise. It will either be a driver currently on the grid that no one thinks will be a WDC (a la Jensen Button) or some new driver not currently in F1.

GH85Carrera 09-11-2020 10:33 AM

I would guess Verstappen.

nota 09-11-2020 10:50 AM

if ham goes and bottas stays he will be WDC if in a MB

a car that is a sec a lap quicker will do that for most drivers at that level

Jeff Higgins 09-11-2020 12:02 PM

I agree - Verstappen. I intensely dislike the guy (along with his dad), but he does have talent, and he is very fast. I would go so far as to say that if he were in a Merc right now he would be beating Hamilton.

The next rules cycle is going to shuffle the deck a bit. This one very much favors Mercedes who, if you remember, threatened to pull out a couple of years ago when there was talk of altering it. The next one may favor other teams' engineering strengths. We'll see - at least it might be a bit of a change.
