I've been involved in Highway/Bridge/Heavy construction for my whole career, and have never seen aluminum used as a guide rail material. Mostly Galv. or weathering steel
That is what we call in the states "Armco" or corrugated guide rail.. There is a bit of semantics in guide vs guard language that some lawyers bickered about years ago.. Spacing of the posts typically increases the closer to a DFO (deadly Fixed Object) traffic is.. It looks like the post were spaced about 5' o/c and the car happened to hit one directly and take out its partners.. A neat thing about the corrugated guide rail, is that is overlaps....but that takes more material.$$$ Also instead of attenuating the crash, guide rail system using that construction could direct a car back onto a hot track |
Soft walls would have made a world of difference in that situation.

Any word on what happened to Perez's engine? I can't find anything online.

Lewis Hamilton has tested positive and has mild symptoms. There will be a reserve driver to be announced.
|
Nikita Mazepin officially announced as joining Haas F1 race team . So one seat filled and one to go . Will be interesting to see who fills Hamilton's seat this weekend and how well they perform in what everyone says is a superior car .

Raise your hands if you'd like to see Hulkenberg in Ham's car. |
Sounds like either Gutierrez, Van Dorne or Hulkenberg and also George Russel are all possibilities.

Please let it be Russell in the Mercedes !
I'm so tired of Crofty and his typical english commentator "let me shout at the top of my lungs 200 words a minute at the start, and silence is the enemy" style ! Even my wife who was a room away asked what was wrong with that shouty guy - miss the Hobbs/Matchett more relaxed style. They barely shut up when we get an onboard. More Chandock, the guy is really good and insightful ! |

Chandock is the man. Check him out on 5th Gear, Motortrend Saturdays. His car evals are top notch |
Yea, I would not miss Crofty at all. The Sky Sports announcers all just love to talk, sometime two or three all at once. And they they have some total inside joke they all laugh about and get off topic of the race. And some of them have accents so thick it is really hard to understand. It is like trying to understand some Bostonian when he is excited and drunk or a drunk French Cajun. It is only English in theory.
|
If they had Paul Di Resta, Karun Chandock, and someone with technical knowledge, I'd be happy with the Sky broadcasts.

I was blown away on Sunday when ESPN took coverage way way past the allotted time. Very un-typical for them. Usually they cut away for a spelling bee or in Sunday's case Fantasy Football.
I guess when there was a chance for loss of life or maiming they were keen to stick around for the story. So I miss NBCSN since they tended to extend and stick around until the race and interviews were done. |
Chandhok ffs.

Quick and dirty translation of an article from French F1 press talking to Romain... "I never lost consciousness. To get out of the cockpit, I was able to undo my belts - the steering wheels was no longer there, probably flew off on impact. All I saw was orange through my visor, flames all around me, I thought of Niki Lauda and I did not want to end up like he did, I had to get out, for my kids... In the end, I got burns on my hands, a big ankle sprain, I thought I might have broken it. I was more scared for my family than for me, my kids primarily, but also my parents, I didn't have time to be scared for myself. I saw death coming, I had no option other than escape this. " Upon watching images of the crash on TV : "This is the biggest crash I ever saw, the fire, explosion, the batteries also burned and added a lot of energy to the fire. Even in hollywood they wouldn't blow it up a car like this. I stayed in the flames 28 seconds but it seems a lot longer to me, took me 3 attempts to escape the cockpit. After this I am so glad to be alive" "My son Simon thinks I have magical powers - talked about a "love shield" that protected me, that I flew out of the car. Those are very impactful words from your kid. My oldest child Sacha was more rational, he is trying to process the accident... My youngest girl was too young to understand, she drew a picture of me with boo-boos on my hands" I'm OK, I have mickey mouse hands but I'm ok... It's unpleasant but not too painful, I'm not complaining. " |
you all know..
I always do more than cringe when it's fire... it's just bad to start out with.. goes to crap fast.. and the smell never leaves you.. he's not going back.. your Elephant sometimes gives you but one look.. Rika |

For one more race... not to end his career like this... Are you writing in Haikus ? ;-) I feel I'm not in on the joke. |

I just babble.. going back.. maybe. but he's not going to race .. I like other's trained for years.. when your skins hangs at your side.. different perspective.. your not so eager to waste what's left.. Rika |
