No doubt there will never be an electric car that is anything like that price or desirability. The sound is great, and it is very pretty.

That '64 flying buttress styling always has reminded me of a C3 'Vette. [/ducking]
But yeah, one of the coolest cars of all time.

AXS tv has a series with ACDC front man Brian Johnson called life on the road. He interviewed Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason in one eposode. To finance.the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour Mason mortgaged his 250 to pay for the US tour. Johnson wanted a ride. Mason said sure, but i'm driving..and off they went.
What a beautiful car. |

Oh, and what did Mason think about the purchase at the time?
“When I paid £35,000 for the 250 GTO in 1977, I felt stupid to be spending so much — I didn’t think it would be worth £30m in 2016.” |

It's not that one vehicle is worth $30 million dollars. It's just a collection of bits. It's that there are enough folks with enough money that to purchase one, that's what you've got to pay. A big part of it is that there aren't many left, and even if you found most of one in a barn, to get it back to to this sort of shape would take a fortune. I'm sure there are buyers who never drive them and hide them away surrounded by moth balls which is a shame, but may be the reason why in another 50-100 years, there will still be some around.

There are people than can make a perfect replica of one for lots less than 30 million. It will always be a replica, but that is like a Beck 904 or a new Shelby Cobra, it can be a better car than the original. Still not the original.

I guess this would be the prefect time to inform the lot of you that the car pictured in the video is a replica, built some years ago in the Netherlands...

Nick Mason is funny. I saw him talk about how the car market dropped after he bought it and people said he was an idiot. Then the stock market crash came in 87 and collectibles went nuts and all of a sudden he was a genius.
