More Fun with Self-Driving Cars
Seems that they're pretty easy to fool...

Strange that my Google Maps App know the speed limit by my GPS location, but the Tesla reads the road sign and doesn't verify against GPS and known speed limits.

Great example of the biggest pitfall to self driving cars was mentioned in that article - lawsuits. Tesla is now having to directly fight lawsuits related to accidents because now the manufacturer is liable for the accident, not the driver. Imagine the scale of lawsuits if these things become prevalent. And being able to sue an automaker directly is every injury lawyer’s wet dream.

You know why Star Trek works? The humans want it to. All of them.
Humans are the biggest impediment to advancement...for now. Give us a couple hundred years...maybe more.

I knew there would be a thread on this.
![]() This happens on older Mobileye derived autopilot, it's on Teslas and a bunch of other things that do camera based speed. Mobileye owned the patent on setting speed limits that way and wanted a fat license for it, so not many current systems that aren't from them work that way. And I bet even their newer stuff might have a double-check, but not sure.
