Anybody need an old El Camino?

My father passed away last fall and leaves behind an '83 El Camino (he bought it in '85), 485k+ miles on it, bone stock. Runs well, exterior is rough, interior needs work, probably not as well-maintained as he thought it was. His wife is looking to sell to somebody interested in keeping it. Car is in Portland, OR area.

Any suggestions where to advertise (other than Craigslist) for maximum effect?

Thanks for the help.

485k miles. Very impressive.

Good luck, cool vehicle.

Maybe Glenn needs a spare/backup?

Maybe. I have a friend's son who just finished a small engine repair class. He wanted a fixer truck.

I gotta say, that rhymes with el Camino.

I will have my son ask.

I would take any year El Camino up to a 72”

73” and beyond the lines were lost.

That won't last long

1975 and older is not subject to smog inspections in California, so vehicles of that vintage have a certain attraction.

Even if the lines were spoiled to your eye in 1972, it is almost certainly the dream car of somebody

Lord almighty those GM V-8 engines are durable

I would kind of doubt if that car would be accepted on BaT but it'd be worth a try.

From the sounds of the condition it seems to be a Craig's list special to me.

I'm thinkin' an '83 would be a nice looking ride.... spend some bucks on the drivetrain, patch up any body issues, and throw an indian seat cover onto the upholstery. Drive it and park it anywhere.

If it was on the East coast I'd buy it. There is a great engine building company near me.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I routinely review what's on BAT (how can you not?) and read through their process explanation this morning. I'm not sure that this car is BAT material, but I'll give it a shot. Maybe I can make the story interesting...

Yep - BAT used to be that way. I'm hoping it still is. I'll report back on how this goes...

Let me know if you want a copy editor . . . I love to write and this could be a cool little task to support.

I will stick with my 1986. It has been paid for since 1992. Only 369,000 miles and still going strong.

BAT use to love the old odd ball w/485,000 patina-ed miles on it but lately they go for the 25 years old 2,100 mile finds.
