Helping a friend ship a car - any low cost recommendations?
I’m helping a friend ship her car from Denver to SF. Cost is definitely a factor. Open trailer is ok.
Anyone have any current good recommendations for a direct carrier (not s broker)? I used to have a great one that did a lot of great jobs for me, but they’re gone (maybe they weren’t so great after all). I know she can call Intercity etc but that’s too expensive. |

I've used J & S Transportation in the past and have been very satisfied with their service. Stay away from brokers...you'll still be getting calls from truckers for months after the vehicle has already been delivered. J & S is a trucking company, not a broker.

Train? I’ve used the train within Canada and it was inexpensive.

That's one of those jobs that you can probably find "a guy" to drive a 1-ton and car trailer for gas money and probably $500 per day. My friend used to do stuff like that in between customer orders, and he would build custom packing lines for millions of dollars. The off season was dead for weeks at a time, and he would get anxiety just staying at home or in an empty shop. You can probably find a periodicals distributor, rancher, farm equipment distributor, etc etc. Any number of guys would drive that and have insurance. Yeah, you can go with a transport company but since a car doesn't fit on a pallet, you are probably limited to open air trailer due to your budget.

Five years ago, I shipped a vehicle using J & S Transportation from Boise ID to SF Bay Area (about 700mi) on an open car carrier for a little over $500. I'm sure prices have gone up some since then, but that should give you an idea of what you're looking at.

I think that $1.00 a loaded mile is about average for car hauling until the distances get above 1k miles, then the price per mile goes down.

I used this guy 702-533-4862. He was a cool guy and took care of the car. I got him through a broker but he said I could have called him direct and saved a lot of money. If you want to IM me I'll give you more details. I had my car delivered from vegas to new jersey.
