Question Anyone know where Mike "Doc" Emrick is?

He has disappeared from the NHL broadcasts. I'm hoping someone has connections to NBCSN.

Really? I have heard anything or can't find anything from the normal googling. Honestly I don't watch the national game that often. I try not to subject her to more than simply watching Caps games. She can't handle watching that much hockey, unfortunately

He called the Cup last year. Maybe that's all he wants to do?

Checking around online it looks like 2/19 was the last time he called a game. Lots of people asking where he is but not finding any answers. He is listed by NBC as the lead announcer for this season but he hasn't been calling the normal early games.

Hopefully he's ok. He had some health issues a few years ago so fingers crossed that hasn't returned.

I am genuinely sad. I have to say I enjoyed Doc calling the games as much as I loved the games themselves. The is "the great one" of broadcasters.

He was the best.I met him rink side along with Chico and he was as gracious a man as you'd ever meet. Did you know he deserves the nickname "Doc"? He has a PhD in Communications.

I found him a bit over the top, but as a kid I watched hockey announcers who were much different, or with the sound off.

I hope he is happy and healthy. He was an interesting guy. Good vocabulary, far more educated than most announcers.

I can certainly see where people would find his play-by-play "over the top" (and it kind of was). OTOH I couldn't help but find the game that much more exciting when he was calling it, especially when it was two teams I wasn't heavily invested in.

I'll admit I'm not a hockey fan, but when it's the only game on I'll watch. I learned to appreciate his commentary and got to the point of preferring him to other announcers.
I only hope he's able to enjoy his retirement.
Hockey, at least for me, won't be the same.

One of the greatest to ever call a game in my opinion . Thank you for all of the memories , you will be missed . Enjoy a long and healthy retirement you earned it .

IMO the greatest to call an NHL game. He wasn't a 'homer', called the games quickly, gave personal insight, knew the history of the players and best of all, he put his personality into it. He'd be closing out the play for a commercial break and make a comment like "isn't this a great game?". It made you feel like he was sitting next to you and talking to you instead of just reporting at you.

My wife and I would watch a game and listen for "doc-isms" like if play stopped and there was pushing and shoving he would say something like "the whistle has blown and now we've got a little extra" or "we're having a meeting of the minds". Invariably, in every game he'd talked about food. We'd laugh because we figured he was hinting for someone to bring him whatever he was talking about (usually local food). There is a sandwich named after him. No one was ever like Doc

Gee thanks Flat. That was a bad night. I was hoping it was when the Bruins won the cup in `11.
I remember one game where in OT, a shot cleanly beat the goalie but it rang iron and Doc screamed "He hit the post! He hit the post!"
IMO, those moments aren't broadcaster theatrics. Doc loved the game that much and he was into it as if it was his team playing.

If you ever watched the pre-game chats he had with Eddie O, you will notice his hand had a really bad shake. I wonder what he battled all those years. Also, you'd see a very large ring on his hand holding the mic.

Dang. Keith Jones isn't going to cut it. I'll miss Doc for sure.

But not as much as Gene. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Hart

He also had that incredible ability to be calling a play or describing the play and then be able to work in a story without breaking the play-by-play, which is pretty impressive.
There is a link to an interview worth listening to.
Notice what player's # is behind his right shoulder.
