911 converted with a Tesla motor
I'm not posting it in the 911 forum, because... |

I like the idea of keeping older cars on the road with new tech but this seems redundant in a classic 911.
What sounds better than the Porsche flat 6 at full wail? I never feel the need to turn on the radio when I'm driving my SC.

What is the value of the pre ‘74 911 unmolested? $60,000-70,000.
Sell the 911 and go buy a Tesla. I’m sure SOMEONE would take it off the owners hands.

Or keep it tucked away for your retirement.

The problem I have with it is cost. Conversion can be $20k easy. One could end up with a wicked fast car.

I just like seeing what other people are doing with cars, when they do it well, and I'd really like to drive that white 68. Like Drive It. People argue about modified cars all the time, but I am into cars that people drive. I had to buy an old car recently, just because I wanted a car with carbs. But I would also rock an electric car, if it was the right car.
I have been driving for almost 50 years, and I still like my life and my cars. But I am getting a little stale. I need something new. People are going to do things in the next century that I can't even imagine, because they can. I am all about doing things that have never been done before, as long as it isn't about Soylent Green or sex with armadillos. Electric 911? Bring it on. The important thing about the future of Hot Rodding is that Hot Rodding has a future. Last edited by DanielDudley; 03-07-2020 at 07:13 AM.. |

One of the early Fiat 124 spider guys built a Tesla powered 124 spider. It cost him 70 grand. Right now there are not very many salvage parts for this kind of endeavor.

I've thought of an e914 for ages. There is an electric conversion bimmer 2002 around the corner. It's an old conversion and not a screamer.

Seems odd to take a light, nimble, relatively balanced platform and weigh it down with a metric cr@p ton of battery and motor. I'd be curious (skeptical, really) of driving dynamics, especially braking and traction with so much additional weight.
I guess some people look at this kind of project as an interesting engineering exercise, but I look at it and think "WTF were they thinking?". Now take this same approach with a 1st or 2nd gen Viper and you might have my attention . . . .

Thinking that this might make a good conversion motor. Lots of promise here.

I'd rather look at the final result as a finished work to evaluate the project. When I was a kid, people lived with old bathrooms and kitchens because they were in good shape. Now people tear out fairly modern stuff just to make something new. In the end, however it got built, if you throw it off a cliff, will it fly? Some of these builds are very very good these days. Whoever these guys are, they have very good muses to inspire them. |

I see electric vehicles as good for daily drivers, high-torque needs (trucks), buses, delivery vans, etc. etc.
Maybe for a luxury GT car but not for a sports car now if somebody has a 914 or a 912 body and no engines affordable or available, then... ok |
