I don't know anyone that has died from the flu and I have asked several people if they know of anyone that has died form the flu. not that its not true.

even as bad as swine flu was under Obama I never new anyone that had it.

Nothing resembling Santa Clarita here...I got lunch for a friend of mine at Chick'Fil'A and the lines were around the block.

Honestly, nothing out of the ordinary:

Our town is just like any other
Good citizens at work and play
Normal folks doin' business in the normal way
This morning was like any other
Mommies kissing daddies goodbye
Then the milkman screamed
And pointed up at the sky...

Sports car and F1 cancelled their opener and subsequent races, I'm in full meltdown here ;-)

I've stopped monitoring my 401k. (What I think is left of it anyway.)

Edit - and my wife wants me to go to Costco tomorrow to stock up on food for the freezer.

Good thread.

Went out to pickup lunch yesterday. Line out of door. No masks in sight. Local hardware chain still jam packed with contractors and cars.

Those of you avoiding their favorite local restaurants, why is that ? We're still eating out as are most here in Norcal suburbia as far as I can tell. The government will assist any furloughed workers in that industry to tide them over the temporary shutdowns. Longer term, not everyone is cut out for home cooking.

What is it that they sell at Costco stores that you cannot get anywhere else?

Or is just the 50 cents you save as long as you buy a year’s supply of everything? I don’t want to think of the average American as an idiot but you’re going to have to help me out here. The whole big box/Black Friday/toilet paper stampede thing just has me SMDH...

Not just the heartland my friend. SmileWavy

LA TIMES: Deputies called after angry Costco customers balk at coronavirus shortages of water, toilet paper.

DAILYMAIL: Cops respond to mass panic at California Costco that ran out of toilet paper and bottled water.

I use that term generically. We have the heartland here, too. It’s called Orange County, SF valley, Santa Clarita valley, etc. Plenty of suburbia here. :)

OK, NOW it is really serious!

The F1 race in Australia is postponed to the end of the year.

The 12 hours of Sebring is postponed until November.

Now it is affecting real sports, not just silly games where men playing with a ball.

From my experience last Saturday, I pulled into the parking lot and the line was as long as in the photo and they hadn't even opened yet. I just kept on rolling and went to Home Depot where there was an abundance of water and TP.

A friend went to Costco in the afternoon, no line and apparently few people. The word is that they put out the TP and water in the AM, limit 2 per customer, and sell out within an hour. I don't understand it.

Ohio governor just announced in a press conference that all schools in state are closed starting this Monday for at least 3 weeks. Ohio presently has 5 known cases.

I just checked, you can get isopropyl alcohol on Amazon.

$16.57 / liter!!! 70% is unavailable.

john70t 03-12-2020 11:47 AM

(I thought that meant independent small producer pale ale. But whatever.)

True, but there are other people in the school, and kids can be vectors. Though you have to wonder where those kids are going to go if not in school. Difficult call, I think the UK is saying not to close the schools.

Which facts? Give me a fact. I don't think you'd know a fact if it slapped you upside the head.
