The Melbourne Grand Pricks (pronounced Grand Prix) has been canceled. Sad as it was an excellent location and well managed for spectators and everyone involved.

GF has just flown out of Wellington airport and said only one person had gloves and face mask. It was the cleaning lady - argh clever b1tch, who would have suspected the cleaning lady.

I have to laugh at my weak jokes, I've lost $61,000.00 today so I have to try and be happy in some way.

Jeez,
I was just there on Via Princessa two days ago to pick up a pair of glasses and a bottle of vitamins. 600pm, walked right and was out in ten minutes.

With the news media helping to create that alternate reality.

Nothing different here. I don’t have any hand sanitizer and only enough toilet paper for a few days. Oh well.

I am at a hospital currently waiting to get a CT scan and being very careful.

But honestly I’m more concerned The Rolling Stones tour is going to get cancelled

Alan A 03-13-2020 04:50 AM

Our office in NYC just closed for 2 weeks. Everyone to WAH.
That’s a change.

Tobra 03-13-2020 05:34 AM

Saw a nurse wearing a mask outside the hospital for the first time ever yesterday.

Sounds like things have changed everywhere except Boston

BReif61 03-13-2020 05:39 AM

Schools closed for two weeks.
Wife is 100% telework for two weeks (minimum).
Anticipating telework guidance for myself by COB today.
All rugby practices and matches are cancelled/postponed until at least 6 April.

No major societal impacts yet, but I expect things to get strange this weekend.

GH85Carrera 03-13-2020 05:45 AM

My wife is mad.

College basketball, canceled.
NBA basketball, canceled.
XFL football, canceled.
Golf, canceled.

I am saddened that F1 and Sebring 12 hours is delayed until the end of the season.

craigster59 03-13-2020 05:46 AM

Well, Hollywood and the majority of film production has shut down for 2 weeks. Most shows with less than 5 episodes left to film have shut down for the season.

The WGA (writer's guild) was getting ready to start negotiations on a new contract and was threatening to strike, I'm sure that's going to have a whole new wrench thrown into it.

Personally I could use 2 weeks off, financials are good and I can get stuff done around the house. The panic is off the charts, it's like things don't change by the day they change by the hour. People need to calm the fck down.

add the NHL to that list and maybe MotoGP. The latter is still open.

First one into the office uses sanitizer on the surfaces and the door knobs. We hit the door knobs on the after visitors. At 5 cents per liter, we can afford it.

Otherwise nothing much has changed. There are under 30 cases in the Houston/Woodlands/Sugarland/Galveston/Baytown area. More than half of those cases were attributed to a single tour group going to Egypt. And the nile cruise ship apparently is now quarantined.

With the school closings, you'd think it was more wide spread. For the most part, the schools here are just extending Spring Break by 2 weeks. This week is Spring break. Most of the universities are following the same.

Tobra 03-13-2020 08:01 AM

Hand sanitizer is not effective on surfaces, you need to use the clorox wipes

What reality is that Ted?

Racerbvd 03-13-2020 10:53 AM

Well, we supply entertainment to assisted living facilities, all have canceled, our cruise ships canceled yesterday, my mother was planning on going to a funeral today, was advised against it, I stopped by a few places to try and find a surgical mask for her (and myself as I have COPD and a weak immune system) decided to get some TP and wipes, 4 stores, nothing.

Now no NASCAR racing at Atlanta. L.A. Times Sports section TV listings today show 8 broadcasts, 3 are horse racing here in SoCal and 5 are soccer in Mexico, Ecuador and Turkey, all on channels I've never heard of.

Nothing else. I've never seen anything like that. Not one broadcast from any sports channel. That surely is unprecedented.

Ironically, given the surplus of free time due to the cancellations, social restrictions, sitting around, etc. most everyone is facing, I find myself coming around these parts (and other social media platforms) less often due to the tiresome abundance of tension, bickering, and hand wringing so prevelant the past few days and getting outside.

As a result, we've met a few nice folks out for similar stroll along Main St. this week.

so they closed all restaurants yesterday at midnight.
Restaurants just across the border in Holland and France today were filled to the brim, having an absolute great business day. While Here in Belgium everything died down except for food shops being bought empty by hoarders.
They will have to east a lot of pasta the coming month, because apparently that was the most popular stuff, those rayon's were empty.

People are stupid
All this just makes me think i should probably get me new gun permits.
cause they are this stupid and hoarding over a relatively minor national crisis

you can imagine how long it would take em to start looting en masse if there ever was a major disaster that does impact food and other logistics.

wdfifteen 03-14-2020 08:51 AM

I suppose the most immediate change is the liquor store has a lot of empty shelves and is out of good gin. I'm gonna miss my Saturday afternoon martini.
On a more serious note MrsWD is getting nervous, which I'm having to try to tamp down. She's talking about not voting next week.
I called my state rep. and Gov. Dewine and encouraged them to postpone Tuesday's election. Most of the poll workers around here are older - the most susceptible demographic for getting sick. It's not right to expose them to hundreds of people coming through. Some of them may just not show p to work, causing a poll worker shortage.

I'll put money it won't anywhere in Europe that will be the first area of the world to start looting if things get worse. Not read about any looting in Italy and they have it pretty bad over there :(

It will be some hood in the US and it won't be hand sanitizer or toilet paper people will steal but big flat screen TV's and low alcohol % beer :D

I've just been out and about my local town, didn't see any round the block queuing or panic buying but there were a few less people about.

Cases in the UK have gone up by a third to 1145 and deaths have doubled overnight, it's all starting to gather momentum over here

pwd72s 03-14-2020 02:35 PM

Now, it's getting serious
