St Pat

Being French, I'm not Irish and don't want to be, but next Tuesday 17th, I'll be listening to nothing but "The Clancy Bros and Tommy maken" the best band EVER
especially if ya like drinkin' and fightin'. My BIL is Irish so I have to try to put up with him for the day. This'll help.

God bless them all!

The one day of the year everyone wants to be me...

My surname, “Higgins” is, of course Irish, one of the oldest family names in Ireland. It is actually the Anglicised form of the Gaelic name "Ó hUiginn", which means "descendant of Uiginn". "Uiginn" is the original Gaelic version of the Old Norse "víkingr" or "viking". The Higgins family makes its first appearance in Ireland as Viking raiders, sometime in the 8th or 9th century. So, my name actually means “Viking” - that might explain a lot of things…

Fortunately, we appear to have settled down somewhat over the following centuries. The Ó hUiginn family were actually high status poets between the 14th and 17th centuries. Seems we put down our swords and picked up our pens. They are, after all, “mightier” aren’t they?

So, to all of you, an old Irish blessing:

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,

may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Anybody know why some Irish Whiskey comes in a round bottle and others in a square bottle?

My name is Patrick and my brother has a very Irish name too. But there isn't a drop of Irish blood in the family. We're Alsacian and French.
My parents best friends were Irish and unable to have children, so my parents let them name the first two of us.

The round bottles are made for alcoholics. If they get too drunk the bottle falls over and rolls onto the floor. This saves the alcoholic from himself.
The square bottle is also for alcoholics. If they get so drunk the bottle falls over, it doesn't fall onto the floor.
When my mother was small, her father was still taking part in the Orange Day parade. His grandfather came from County Derry don't you know.

Wow, that's pretty darn cool, Patrick. They must have been very, very good friends. With that kind of good will, and a name like Patrick, I hereby bequeath upon thee, by the powers vested in me, the noble status of "honorary Irishman".
