Anyone here like The Jam?

Just curious if we had any Paul Weller/Jam fans here. I've been in sort of a Mod/Britpop kick lately.

They were okay. "Everchanging Moods" was a good Weller song. The Fixx, The Cure, Tears For Fears and early U2 were my mainstays.

Of course nothing compared to Joy Division, New Order and Roxy Music.

I love Joy Division and Roxy Music. Pretty much anything Brian Ferry is good. I also like all the Brian Eno offshoot stuff.

You like King Crimson?

Jared - Funny that you mention this. I was really into the Style Council. Paul Weller was supposed to do a concert here last Feb, but then he cancelled. No reason was given but I was bummed out because we had tickets.

dd74 - I still like all those groups you mentioned. In high school INXS, Tears for Fears, & the FIXX were the best concerts I went to.

I also saw Depeche Mode but they were a disappointment (best heard than seen) .

Yeah, I agree with you Sarah. DM has never been good live. Saw them at the KROQ Acoustic Xmas a few years ago and was very dissapointed.

Have you seen 24hr. Party People? It's a really cool pseudo-documentary on the Manchester scene in the early 80's.

Probably the best Mod/Britpop show I ever saw was Pulp in Glasgow, Scotland. They were always a fav of mine, but they hardly ever tour the States. I was glad to get a chance to see them. It's weird, Jarvis Cocker looks older than my dad now.

O.T., but i just figured out English Rose on guitar. love that tune.

BTW, The Sex Pistols are doing a tour of the States this summer! and Flogging Molly is the opener!

I like KMFDM (Kill Motherf*cking Depeche Mode)
(I know, it's really Kein Mitgefühl für die Mehrheit)

I have not heard of Public Image Limited before. Or maybe I've heard one of their songs and did not know who it was. I'll try to look them up and see if there are music files of them.

Sarah,

P. i. L. was Johnny Rotten's band after the Sex Pistols. They never really broke in the U.S.

Hey, maybe one of you can answer this...

There's an old punk rock song where the chorus goes,

"what do I get... woah-oh-oh what do I get?"

I think it's either Wire or the Buzzcocks. Anyone know?

Jared - it's the Buzzcocks. Song title is "What Do I Get?" It's on the great album "Singles Going Steady"

Cool, I knew it was one of the two. Hey, it's way cool to see old school punk fans here. Cheers!

Jared - I ran an independant record store for 8 years so my brain is full of "music trivia"! I kick butt on Rock and Roll Jeopardy!

If you've seen High Fidelity, then you pretty much have me, except that I havent slept with Lisa Bonet, lol. BTW, the book was better than the movie

I agree the book was better. The overall vibe at our store was pretty much the same. More than a few people received the suggestion that they might be better off shopping at a Sam Goody or a Musicland. In hindsight, not the best customer service!

The best part of the job was when I left I had over 3000 cds, about 3000 lps and maybe 1500 45's. Also got to go to many many shows for free.

Jared - no dice on the cartridge.... Do you have a backup turntable? Something pretty cool about hearing the needle hit the record.

Lots of 12" singles also. Oh yeah, a ton of "promo only" stuff that's pretty cool. Everything from live Pixies, Soundgarden, and even some cool 60's Stones items still in the shrink wrap. I figure it'll all go to fund the retirement someday.

Jared - Love King Crimson - one of the most innovative bands I've ever heard. Definitely cool!

Talk Talk is another innovative band. Not their first album, but everything afterward is supremely cool!
