Does the backwards gas pump nozzle filling trick apply to other cars?

My '69 911 would take gas better that way. Forty years ago, I had a Renault that was just as bad.

Dynamic velocity pushes a tide of sorts that returns.

Watched that this morning. Youtuber are starting to get pretty legit investments and it will be a fun series. I used to think Tyler's channel was the worst of them but he is now actually my favorite. He is a bit of a goof but his material is intersting to me and I like his taste in cars.

I found irony in Ed explaining the risks with filling a gallardo since that is what caused freddy's to catch fire.

My exige can be temperamental taking gas too quick but nothing like 30 min.

I have trouble filling both of my 911's with gas. There is one certain angle that works every time.

Weird. I can fill my 911 and the Elky with no issues, just normal pump and go.

"same thing" You people are getting gas washing back out like that vid?

I might get an occasional click-off, but never a full splash out.

Back when I had my 911, I had issues until I figured out the right angle to use for the pump. Yes, upside down did work, but I didn't have to do it upside down to get it to work.

My SC only allows upside-down filling. The 997 was "normal."

I met him at Radwood a while back. He was very down to earth and one thing that came across very clear, it really isnt an act, he is a bit goofy and does make questionable purchases...the difference is he knows exactly what he is doing and realized that he can (and does) make a ton of money off his "goofy" persona on Youtube.

Sort of like Jessica Simpson, everyone used to say "No way anyone can be that stupid" and they were right, she just figured out people will pay millions for "stupidity".

having shortened my '69 fill to put it under the hood, it is difficult to fill in AZ and gets really interesting with the California interlocks when I go there

I think all 3 of these gentlemen are quite intelligent for sure.

It became apparent to me in the Hoovie and Doug Demuro autotrader videos that Hoovie is a real car guy and has much better taste in cars than doug, or at least substantially more interesting taste.

Why not shove a small poly vent tube down the filler neck?

Different pump nozzles work differently. Most of the time I can fill the XJ6 with SOP but some places I have to use the low fill rate setting. Once in awhile I'll turn the nozzle away from me. The filler is vertical for the first few inches.

Jeez, I remember filling the old '71 XJ6 I had that featured a left and right side tank and 2 filler necks. No cross flow either, just a toggle on the dash. Same with my '81 Chev Dually (long gone) but it had one filler — 2 tanks, no back and forth once the gas was in. That monster took over 40 gal.

There is a system to allow the air in the gas tank to vent out when being displaced.

On newer cars like the OP's video exotics, the evaporative emissions vent valve should be open allowing the gas tank air to vent after it runs through the charcoal canister.

I know my 81 911 has a charcoal canister but no way is that thing part of the venting system given the small hose diameter.

My seat of the pants take is every one of the problems mentioned could be remedied if venting is functioning properly.

Never gas splashing back, but my Saab 900 ('85 SPG) requires the same kind of pump finagling that my 911 does.

You want a PITA fueling procedure? My UniMog S404 has 2 tanks but only one filler and no transfer pump - just a tube connecting the two tanks. The filler opening is 100mm and there's a screen inside, so you can't just stick the nozzle in and go to town. First you fill the forward tank, and when that is full you then have to continue to slowly trickle the gas in so that it overflows through the tube into the second tank, all the while holding back the vapor recover shield with your other hand, like some gigantic mechanical foreskin. You know the aft tank is full when the gas finally flows up to the top of the filler on the forward tank. If both tanks are low this whole process takes 10-15 minutes - total capacity is about 25 gallons.
