No eviction due to virus ?
WTF, our dumb ass Mayor say there's going to be no eviction for tenants due to Corona and the slow down in the economy. He will make more noise about commercial in the coming days but nothing for building owners or owners who has a mortgage. We take it on our shorts. I can see it now how some will completely take advantage of this. It can go on for 6 months, I hear.

I'd been thinking about this a bit over the last few weeks. No job means no money to pay rent. I guess I'll just have to go hungry, but I'm not throwing anyone out of their home. No legislation in this country but I feel it's my moral obligation to look after my tenants and worry about the details (rent owing) at a later stage.

Can't. they can all claim hardship due to virus and they are off the hook. Its a free for all and he's giving it away and we are stuck with the bill

I'm an old man and freehold. So don't owe anyone anything.
I think the banks have been told to be friendly to people. Also the tax department has too. The official cash rate is quarter of a percent, so the banks have plenty of margin to still make their profits. |

Does this apply to all landlords, or just those with more than 8, 16 etc. number of units?

We have had some bizarre tenancy law changes here too. Lots of landlords are giving up and selling the houses. Which means less houses available for people to rent - duh.
I've only got really good people in good houses. People focused on their lives and their careers, not on how to rip off the landlord. So I'm lucky. Tax department friendly - it sounds like a contradiction in itself LOL |

Our government is talking about extending the tax deadline out from April 15 to some later date, in order to let people hold their $$ a little longer at least.
Saw this today, real sign in building elevator: ![]()

I don't see how a local mayor can legislate anything, including zoning laws, let alone Landlord Tenant laws, which are legislated by the state.

Haha, Constitution? What’s that?
This is just forced, privately funded welfare. I’m sure property taxes are still due on time. If the government wants to provide free or deferred rent, why not use taxpayer dollars to pay people’s rent (or loan to people to pay their rent)? If this is a government or societal obligation, shouldn’t the government, or ALL of society, kick in? Such bizarre logic. |

As far as enforcing. The courts have been instructed not to take new cases and suspend existing ones. |

Just a simple “Hey man, sorry about the no rent, corona virus lol” will do. (And lots will do it, see elevator sign above). Last edited by McLovin; 03-16-2020 at 09:43 PM.. |

And suspend existing cases?
What does corona virus have to do with cases filed 30! or 60 days ago? Those tenants’ failure to pay had nothing to do with any virus. This is craziness. The government is scarier and going to do more long term damage than the virus. Last edited by McLovin; 03-16-2020 at 09:53 PM.. |

Although I think a lot are getting the revolution they wanted.
(But contrary to the old saying, this revolution most definitely WILL be televised). Last edited by McLovin; 03-16-2020 at 09:54 PM.. |
