If I had to guess, I'd say nothing is actually 'broken'. It looks like the hose came out of the coupler.

It looks like the charge air hose from the compressor, the one that's pulled away with O-ring.

Maybe try this site.

Scott..... you were dead on!

Once I got a chance to really get in there and see what was happening, BINGO.

The hose had come loose (had some work done on it recently and it may have been reassembled incorrectly.

Seated the hose and buttoned it down..... now NO surging whatsoever!

Thanks fellas!!!

Is this still a "car guy" forum ?

Scott Douglas 03-17-2020 03:30 PM

The easy fixes are always the best!
Glad to have helped.

Still amazing to me how brave a keyboard makes some of us.

Either way, thanks to you guys, it was a simple fix once I was able to get in there and see what was happening.

Scott Douglas 03-17-2020 03:35 PM

Your first picture was the key.
Good job using the camera, or was it a phone?

PRE-H20 03-17-2020 03:38 PM

Thanks Scott.... was my phone.

Hah, I was actually going to add WFH or the equivalent in my previous post.

Good thing I toned it down !

That is what I love about wrenching: Nothing more than problem solving.

stevej37 03-17-2020 04:09 PM

If you did have to replace it...I'll bet it's not a $10 hose!

Pretty sure Home Depot has a $10 replacement which works exactly the same.

That spring (?) braced air hose feeding a standard accordian looks way overdesigned.

German intercooler hose. Of course it's over engineered

john70t 03-17-2020 05:29 PM

It's designed to keep a rounded internal profile and follow the engine while it torques in the mounts (might want to check those).

There is no such thing as German over-engineering.
Such talk could get you in trouble.
And their sense of humor needs no correction, thank you!

My Powerstroke diesel has a hose coming off the intercooler very similar to that. It is a know weak point that sometimes comes apart under hard acceleration when towing. Fortunately I was right near my house when it happened. Went aftermarket to solve that issue....

pmax 03-18-2020 09:54 PM

Interesting.

To hold the profile, assuming the internal pressure is lower than atm, I was wondering .... wouldn't it be better to have the springs inside the flexible hose ?

air is under pressure from the SC [kompress] so no

pmax 03-19-2020 10:46 PM

^^^ Yup, that would explain it.

john70t 03-20-2020 04:41 AM

If the OP has someone lock the brakes and rev it in gear, he will see his engine trying to roll over and take that hose with it.
That is probably why it popped off.

New engine mounts will prevent that from happening again. (or driving slowly forever)

This can probably be done in an hour or two with the engine in place lifted slightly on a jack.
There may be just one that has cracked and failed. It will be in the direction of engine rotation.

See, I'd have taken that as light hearted ribbing. A bunch of buddies sitting around giving each other a little crap (most guys do it).

Make a silly mistake, your friends are probably going to tease you a little bit.

On this board most of us feel like we are those buddies just sitting around shooting the sheisse.

The key to this place is to be able to laugh at yourself, and not take things too seriously.

Nice fix on the hose. Had a Mazda with a cracked intake hose, but the crack was minor and in the bottom of a crease. Booger to find, soooo easy to fix.

I agree.

For what it's worth, this is how I envision PPOT. And most times, the conversations are exactly like this show.
Lots of puffing, lots of banter, and plenty of ribbing...but in the end, we're all on the same team. Except Tabs. ;)

It's why I stick around.

Hey the court jester always(or usually) tells the truth, and has diplomatic immunity.

He also has no duty to perform:
https://inpublicsafety.com/2014/03/duty-to-act-legal-obligations-vs-community-expectations/
In 1981, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals ruled in Warren vs. District of Columbia (444 A.2d. 1, D.C. Ct. of Ap., 1981). The Court stated that it is a “fundamental principle of American law that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any individual.”

Consider our apostate a god-send.
Right now all his prophecies have somewhat come to fruition.
