How have you changed with the advent of the Wuhan Flu?
What are you doing differently?
I don't go visit my parents after I have been at the hospital. Otherwise not doing much different that I can think of. I picked up a prescription for one of them one my way home, and left it in their mailbox, first time I have ever gone to their house when they were home and did not go in. |
I am working from home. My kids school is closed so they are here too. My team is mostly working from home and the rest will be soon. I’m no longer eating lunch in restaurants. My conference in The Woodlands next week was cancelled (I was supposed to present). The industry association that I chair is cancelling our social event next month and our technical event will be a webinar instead of in person. All meetings are done via Skype or similar. My kids’ ski race club ended the season today as our ski hill closed effective 5:00 PM today despite having record amounts of snow.
So yah, not much has changed in the last week... One thing that has not changed is calving. Our cows should begin calving any minute (we are checking cows every couple hours during the night). |
I'm sitting here at my tablet doing nothing different then I was doing a month ago.
|
I'm very much playing the long game. I'm not sweating the details. If I hadn't lost so much on the stock market I'd probably be really enjoying it - as people enjoy a good war. I just want friends and family to be happy and secure and to see this through to a few years from now when we can start to recover and be competitive business wise again. But right now just looking after the team.
|
I've been buying more supplies as they are becoming scarce. However, I am buying for friends because they are busy taking care of their families, and cannot run off to the store at a moment's notice.
At this moment, going through my mental Rolodex to figure out which tenants work retail, restaurants and bars... |
There's a very new invisible 2 meter barrier around me. That's about it.
|
I’m watching less news. The hype is stressing me out. News reporters are amped up and sounding hysterical. Last night a news headline was “terrifying new numbers on the Corona virus.”
Just tell me the news in a calm voice and I’ll decide if it’s terrifying. NPR seems to be the best about just reporting what’s going on without sounding hysterical. |

As for what I'm doing differently? Nothing because I do the same thing every flu season. I stay away from my parents. I don't go out to eat in crowded places and generally don't go out to eat during flu season. I wash my hands frequently. I carry hand sanitizer in my car for when I do go out. I try not to touch things like door knobs, hand rails etc and if I do, out comes the hand sanitizer. |
I am consciously washing my hands more, and being aware of how close I am to other people. I am not a social person, so really no big changes, my wife and I enjoying peace, and quiet at home on our 10 acre farm.
I am planning many different building, and maintenance projects with the inevitable (it hasn't been declared yet) self quarantine period coming up. |
My Governor is telling clubs and bars to close, and restaurants to be take out only. I guess I will have to get take out for lunch now. The gf and I usually go out for lunch 5x a week at some restaurant. This will save me money, but I really like having my food served to me hot, and eating it right there.
I'm another one that is using hand sanitizer. Never really used it before, but now I use some when I see it available. If not, whenever I get back into my car, I use the small bottle I keep there. I always washed my hand with soap, but not for 20 seconds, and I am making sure to get my thumbs clean, too. |
Starting yesterday when I went out and hit 5 or 6 stores I came home, threw my clothes in the washer and washed my hands thoroughly. I think this will be my routine for a while.
|
I'm missing my grandchildren. My children FBII and FB-ette are worried that they may infect me.
|
I worked from home before the Chinese Flu hit, and I still work from home.
Yesterday I did not leave the house except to go to the curb to retrieve the trash can, and get the mail, and promptly thrown most of it in the recycle bin. I never did put on real shoes, just the "house slippers" that do have a rubber sole. I will need to make a banana & beer run and today. The beer I can get from a drive thru window at the local convenience store. The nanners I will have to go in and brave the other customers. Heck, I may even get some apples and oranges to make the trip more worthwhile. |

I have had Chimay, and it is good, but for expensive beer I much prefer Erdinger Dunkle, German Lager I think it is even better.

Im loving the whole concept of social distancing . I have always tried to limit to one wait job per day, and only in the mornings, but no more .
100% no waits. I am trying to keep everyone out of the building, and wiping down steering wheels, shifters, and window buttons upon entry, and exit of each car . These are really strange times . |
Life is going to change big time next Wednesday. Our neighbor is in Australia, going out, meeting people, taking no precautions. He’s coming home Wednesday. His wife is here at home and has severe COPD which puts her in a high risk group for getting sick. She was going to go live in a hotel for the first two weeks after he gets back. We volunteered our guest room for her, so we’re going to be running a B&B for a couple of weeks.

Just hiding under my bed nestled in my hoard of TP. Quite comfy.
|
I am more bitter and skeptical.
And I dress like this now: https://external-content.duckduckgo....jpg&f=1&nofb=1 |

My wife works at a hospital. She starts undressing in the laundry room now when she comes home from work. I'm starting to have a hard time seeing the downside to all this.:D

On vacation since Friday, been moving and getting our old house ready for the buyers. Closing is tomorrow.
Being a home builder, emails from work don’t bode well for the future, so we are circling the wagons and will pay off any debt Friday. |
Having not read any of the previous responses, elbow bumps (I'm on a hiring team), working from home, regretting not having a water purifier system in house. Not to drink...but to feed our espresso machine. We are GTG on everything else so if SHTF I'm confident I can source a water system to keep our espresso machine free of nasty SoCal heavy water :)
|
haha, I've actually lost two kilos of weight.
Probably the worry has burnt it off. |
At work we are preparing to be shut down for 2 months. I've been off work since last Friday and all those times I've said "I need some time off", well I think it's going to be "too much of a good thing".
I've stopped watching the news and I wash my hands 5 times as much as I used to. My dog is loving it, he's thrilled having me home. |
County Commissioner had a town meeting last night. It has been postulated that almost everyone in our area who could be exposed already has been. I started self isolating 7 days ago when I had a short period of mild symptoms, and they are getting worse as of last night.
Nobody is getting tested unless they are so sick they require hospitalization, and I only have persistent respiratory congestion at this point. I think the next few days will show exactly how sick I will get. Obviously my wife has been thoroughly exposed though contact with me. Introspectively, I think my life still has purpose, but I have had a pretty full life, and I have done everything I ever wanted to do. Wondering on your mortality can certainly cause one to question what is really important. I have helped a lot of people in my life, but I do wonder if we are leaving the world a better place for our children. Meanwhile, my wife wonders if we are going to run out of paper towels. I hope not. ;) |
DD,
Monitor your temp. If you spike a fever, call your physician. They'll likely bring you in and test for Influenza A/B. If both are negative they write an order for a CV test. FWIW, my daughter just fought Influenza B a week ago. Heavy cough and congestion. Again, if you're concerned, they will test you for Influenza A/B based on symptoms. |
Cheer up DD, you are going to be alright.
|
+1 on monitoring your temperature. Call the doc fast if it spikes. You'll be OK.

Also watching much less TV at times due to all the constant news conferences... just turn them off after a couple of minutes of their hysterical "reporting"... the reality is no one really knows what the end result of all this will be but it is definitely a life altering event for many. |

Work hasn't skipped a beat due to the wonders of the modern day Interweb.
Anyone else not slowing down either ? |
I kicked my nasty habit of biting my nails.
I shook a hand today, and went straight to the guys bathroom for a warm water scrub down like I was prepping for surgery. At the car, I hit the hand sanitize juice. |
I'm working from home, company has sent everyone home for 2 weeks, today was my 1st day, was a lot more productive than I thought I'd be
My son's final school exams cancelled, he is disappointed as he has studied very hard, school is closed now for the year, only open to children of parents critical in the fight of the virus We have distanced ourselves from all socializing with family, friends and keeping our distance from people in general to protect ourselves but more importantly to protect the vulnerable older generation I'm getting much fitter as I spend 30 mins each day on my rower, thought it was wise to improve my fitness and lung fitness just in case |
Will be interesting to hear from the California folks.

The food bill is down...cheaper to eat at home instead of restaurants.
Beer bill is up...so it all balances out. |
