(a non-covid thread)
![]() - better than Hazet? (does it matter) - do they make unusual but useful items the others don't? |

Wera Tools or bust. Unique, thoughtfully designed, and very high quality tools. I have their Zyklop speed ratchet sets in 1/4" and 3/8", and they are fantastic. Their "Joker" wrenches are next on my list.
Also Knipex pliers, cutters, strippers, crimpers, etc.

Stahlwille makes the Kabelex tool, which is used to eject the electrical pin connector inside a wiring plug, such as the flag mirror housing inside 1974-1989 911s. This allows you to remove the flag mirror without cutting all of the wires like a yutz.

.5" set
It would be great if I could post a pic. This is my favorite set. It has a nice feature, which is that each piece will not come apart unless you press the release button. That means your tool will stay together no matter what until the job is done. :::imagine a cool picture here::::: |

Imagine a Gedore 1/2" breaker bar. Nice ratcheting mechanism. And a Gedore 1/2" torque wrench (trust me, these are nice. Imagine that this website picture upload is working) |

From left to right:
Sockets - Stahlwille, Hazet, Snap-On, and Metrinch. All are chrome vanadium steel. For sure, the best daily use set is the Stahlwille. |

To answer the question of whether Stahlwille is better than Hazet, no.
They are almost identical. The finish itself is a bit more shiny, but that's it. I like the case that Stahlwille comes in a bit better, and the usability of the extensions and the 1/2" socket detent of Stahlwille is really I would say the best in the business. |

3/8" set. I've used this a lot because the case is made well. I can grab it and head out.

I have several Stahlwille tools from back in the day that are still in good shape after 40 years of everyday use. Many of the Porsche factory tools that are automatic shipment to the dealer are also made by Stahlwille. So Porsche must trust their quality.

I have just one Stahlwille item, several Hazet & PB Swiss screwdrivers, and mostly SnapOn.
I started out with Craftsman as a youngun, but most of them got stolen in a bobbery. Interesting tidbit: I used to think that all the majors were the same quality, and shiny Snapon is easy to find and easy to clean. But then I took the Jerry Woods/Brus Anderson engine building course. At one point (rocker arms?) one of them* said that he'd broken several Snapon tools doing that, but never had a problem with the German tools. * not sure if it was Bruce or Jerry, but I'm sure it wasn't Tom & Jerry or Ben & Jerry |
