Richard, I assume animals die as humans do, some peacefully and some in agony. WRT to humans the choices are largely not ours to make, with some extreme exceptions. Just knowing you spared Mickey from misery and agony should help.

Nothing is complete.

My sincerest condolences.

In November, we almost lost our cockapoo Milou. A puncture wound to the chest at the doggy daycare quickly escalated to her crashing on the table at the vet and being resuscitated. Took a few days and a surgery to know whether she would make it, and in what shape. In the meantime, we had come to accept that we may lose our dog. Not even special treats or hugs, just an accident and an abrupt end. She pulled through and appears to be without complications from her flatlining, but now it's often on my mind that we will, inevitably, go through it again and this time for real. Hopefully it's not any time soon - she just turned 5. We do appreciate that every day we have with her now is truly a bonus. It also made us contemplate our own mortality and possibly having a DNR order. Things dogs teach us...

That's very sad. Hang in there, my friend.
17 years is a fantastic run, too.

Something is torn from you, by the same life forces which once gave it to the world.
Gone forever.
That part will grow back mostly, or eventually scar over, but the pain is there now.

I don't always open these threads. It depends upon what's going on at the time if I can handle the content or not.

I teared up reading...a much loved pet here was given that final ride in early August...Damn, it hurts!

It is over and Mickey is resting comfortably in his new home in the backyard . It is a peaceful setting amongst the trees and visible from the back deck. I placed a brick as a marker . He passed peacefully in our arms as we cried like babies . Man this was a tough one , and seeing my wife cry always rips me apart .

I want to thank each of you for your comments in a small way it helps lesson the pain. When we came home Dexter was searching the house for his little buddy . Then he barked like he normally does to say feed me 😁.

I told MrsWD about this thread. It reminded us of our own experiences. We had a good cry together for you and for Mickey. God bless you for your courage.

I'm so sorry. :(

My wife and I have lost four of our furry children in the past couple of years. We miss them immensely.

I’m feeling your pain. Dogs are so heartfully good that it brings out the best in humans. Mickey did his job and is leaving your family with great memories.

All our prayers to you and your family.

As if this wasn't hard enough on its own but last week our youngest son that lives in Orlando had to put down his dog Cooper . Cooper and Dexter were owned by the same couple and we adopted the dogs when that couple started a family . They are all Weiner dogs with distinctive personalities . Lots of joy over the years , well worth today's tears .

So sorry for you and your family. It never gets easier. Our little Malti-Poodle is almost 20. My wife's had her since she was 6 months and she's been in my life since 2014. She's lost weight recently and I don't think we are too long from having to make that difficult decision. Luckily the Golden mix we rescued is young and very loving. Best to you and your family from ours.

Very sorry to hear about your Mickey. Life now is trying enough as is, so the loss has to really hurt. A loss is never easy but the good memories will always be with you.

JackDidley 03-26-2020 09:00 PM

I feel for you. Losing a family member is always tough.

WPOZZZ 03-26-2020 09:08 PM

Sorry to hear about that. I hate to think about having to put my baby down.
