Challenge to Pelican Engineering -> Let's solve the Coronavirus Crisis

We can make homemade bread. We can make homemade beer. We can make hand sanitizer and household cleaners/sanitizers. We can 3D print parts. We can 3D print GUNS!!!

We need a home made system to produce toilet paper.

I know, I know. Bidet there. Done That. It's not the same!

We are some of the smartest people in the WORLD! Home made toilet paper solves so much!

Of course even a knitwit can figure out alternatives.

I guess that would be washable/reusable? But cold water only, or it will shrink, right?

From my perspective, the S. Korea model is the path forward to bring this thing to conclusion. We are 2 months behind them in terms of testing but their fierce determination to rapidly test/quarantine/contact trace/isolate is the only thing so far that has been effective. Right now our approach seems to be a lot closer to Italy and Spain than Korea which doesn't bode well for us over the next 4 weeks.

This is a pretty accurate report on where we are currently and where we need to go to beat this thing.

Just back from my local Walmart.
Didn't need any, but decided to check out TP aisle.
Shelves were full with TopCo TP. I wish I would have checked the price. 4 packs only...no limit.

Solved it already. We all go to flip flops and start using socks as a.s wipes.

The thing that pisses me off the most about this whole situation is the sad realization that the USA can't even make enough f'ing toilet paper in an emergency situation to satisfy need or the perceived need. We can't make enough hand sanitizer. We can't make enough damn masks!
I remember when I could buy a steel gas can made in my hometown. I could buy a skateboard that was made right down the block. I could buy TV's made just 20 minutes away. Until a few years ago, I could buy TP that was made just 12 miles from where I live. "Progress"! ain't it grand?

My local Safeway shelves have been bare all week. I went to Amazon and got TP and paper towels coming.

I live somewhat near Willow Run airport, where an entire B-24 bomber plane full of complex parts once went out the door.
Every single hour.

(back to the OP)

My only concern with new plastic printed parts is the potential for off-gassing of harmful chemicals.
This might be solved with an autoclave.
IDK.

nah. Materials choice. I happen to be printing at the moment and breathing perfume du ABS. Other materials, like PET (typical water-bottle) print with no smell and are chemically stable for food etc.
