Corona Virus - By Country & population

A better view of where each country is by population.

I understand that a country that has had the virus for less time may have lower numbers. But then again, China is a lying sack of ****! No way is their death rate so high and their total cases so low.

And way to go Switzerland! That is the way to show the Italians.

Well done!

CA: 6 (2,400 cases 39.5M)
Bay Area 12 (900 cases 7.7M)

CA is behind in testing compared to other countries or even NY. Only about 30k tests administered. OTOH, distancing started 3+ weeks ago in the Bay Area organized by tech leaders and followed by counties and then state. I am sure it was seeded at least as badly as NY with our Asian connections.

Turns out the information per capita is actually available on the worldometer, just sort by it (total cases per 1M population)

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

Small places are interesting. Vatican is 5000 cases/M! They look to have 4 cases and 800 people living there.

They are reportedly classifying Covid-19 cases as 'pneumonia'. And killing people who disagree with the approach.

Here is one, of many...

https://www.newyorker.com/news/dispatch/why-is-russias-coronavirus-case-count-so-low

Quote:
According to Russia’s own statistics agency, the number of pneumonia cases in Moscow grew by thirty-seven per cent in January, compared with the same time last year. Anastasia Vasilyeva, the head of the independent Doctors Alliance trade union, said, “It’s impossible to know the real situation, but one thing we know for sure: the state is ready to manipulate medical statistics for political purposes.”
Quote:
In recent days, stories about wards overflowing with pneumonia patients have circulated on Russian social media.
And here:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/21/europe/putin-coronavirus-russia-intl/index.html

Quote:
Anastasia Vasilyeva, a doctor for Russian opposition figure Alexey Navalny and leader of the Alliance of Doctors union, made headlines with a series of videos in which she claims the authorities are covering up real coronavirus numbers by using pneumonia and acute respiratory infection as a diagnosis.

"You see they said the first coronavirus patient that died, that the cause of death was thrombosis," Vasilyeva told CNN. "That's obvious, nobody dies from coronavirus itself, they die from the complications, so it's very easy to manipulate this."

A lot goes into the number of cases. One of which is testing rate. A high test rate can result in more of the lesser cases getting picked up and added to the count.

On the 24th, Switzerland has tested 80,000 and was testing 8,000 per day.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-swiss-cases/swiss-coronavirus-cases-rise-to-nearly-9000-with-90-deaths-idUSKBN21B25U

With a population of 9 million they have one of the highest testing rates in the world. Probably over 1% by now. The US is at .2%.

Switzerland, the Math:

108.5/ 100,000 = .001085 = 0.1% of the population.
9117/ 8,403,994 = .001085 = 0.1% of the population.

Yep, the math checks out.

This is just Cases found, right? ...not deaths?

Correct. But since they test at a very high rate vs most others they find more of the milder cases.

I am more surprised that we had any numbers at all out of China which granted are all totally worthless. It makes me wonder why we saw any numbers out of China, did the government take a calculated gamble that they had to report something somewhat close to actual? If so then I think it tells us we have a much bigger problem on hand than what we are seeing if the CCP felt the need to do some level of fessing up. Is this so bad that the leaders in China know they don’t make it with out asking for some serious outside help at some point or did they think enough information had or would leak out that it was only a matter of time before the government had to make an official report of some numbers to the world. So many questions out of China that we likely have no way to get accurate information to answer. I am not sold either that this did not start in the bio lab that is located in Wuhan and got out. What a perfect biological attack, launch on target by sending in a few people who you don’t even know have it. Watch the spread, wait until civilian hospitals are at capacity and your target medical capacities are beyond what they can handle then launch attack.

In what way would China Attack? They don't have a Navy of the size to transport enough people to the USA. They don't have the airlift capacity to put enough soldiers in the US to do any good. And they are attacking the BEST armed civilian population in the world.

Economically? Yes, this should be a "shot across the bow" whether it was by design or not. Mebbe they're ready, willing, and able to take a punch...this might be the "trial run". Develop a virus (and cure?)...then have at it.

I gots tin foil....lots of it

"Just in Time" manufacturing with China as part of the chain, will make corporate boards across this country VERY uncomfortable. I expect an onshoring boomlet when this all settles out.

Just a thought and not because I'm wishing this. If we badly handle this crises and the death rate is anywhere between 100K -200K which far exceeds the reported numbers from China, wouldn't you make the argrument to offshore more?

If you HONESTLY believe the Chinese death toll is anywhere near 84k there's no point in beginning this discussion. The Brits are reportedly pegging the number at 15x to 40x the official figures. I'm inclined to believe the Brits over China.
