Ferrari Testarossa?
I always enjoy reading the threads on the driving dynamics and ownership experiences by the posters here. I mentioned in Wayne's Covid thread about watching Miami Vice lately, so of course I have see Crockett's white Testarossa and it makes me wonder about them.
Between all of the models they made almost 10,000 of them so I know its considered mass produced. Anyone here had one? Thoughts? Impressions? Thanks! |

There aren’t many things out there more expensive than a cheap Ferrari - or a cheap airplane.

I have discussed my ownership of one a couple times here, maybe a search would pull up the details.
Not a bad car to own, unless one of the known problems with that particular car bite you in the ass. |

Almost Banned Once
|
I've written about this before.
My neighbour owned one for more than 20 years. He sold it about 18 months ago. (90,000 km - 55923 miles total) He's an absolute mad man... He did all of the maintenance/repairs and I helped him with some of the major ones. If you can find a good one for the right money then go for it. Please don't overpay for an unloved car. Just some personal comments. Ignore them if you don't agree. Great car but it's a bit dated IMO and you really can't drive it. Mileage kills the value of these cars. It's not timeless like the Countach but they do drive better.

A friend of mine drives his daily, in the rain, traffic you name it, he has over 80,000 miles on it and it looks great. Whatever it needs it gets and he does a fair bit of the work at home and has a good trust indy when its beyond his capabilities.
A few years ago, I seriously considered an early flying mirror but then backed out.

They took a jump in price a few years ago when people realized they could own a 12 cylinder Ferrari for not a lot of money.
I really like Harry's garage examples of how they are not as fragile as I had been lead to believe. BUT, when 328s were $25k I thought about buying one instead of my 73 911 RSR replica, and then I realized that if I didn't buy the Ferrari then every four years I could buy another $25k Porsche :-)

Leno's not really a Ferrari guy...he's more into Lamborghinis. I read somewhere that he apparently had a Countach as a DD for a while.

That correct, he used is red 1986 Countach as a daily, he bought it in 1991 and has over 70k miles on it now. When I toured his garage there wasn't a Ferrari to be seen and while he respects the marque, he is a definitely a Lambo guy (he get's it!!!).

One of the white TR's used was actually a Pantera with repro TR body panels.
There was a real one in the series... maybe a couple. Two of the Daytonas were repro from Corvettes. Ferrari was very upset. Last edited by tcar; 03-23-2020 at 10:44 AM.. |
