What kind of pliers/crimpers are these?

Storage wars guys I rent from came across these in their piles of stuff.

Nice quality but no idea what used for.

Thanks.

Those are hose clamp pliers... Used for clamps like on CV joints, and high pressure fuel line

They maintain a flat squeeze across and the center piece keeps the clamp from bulging...

Oh the knowledge of this board!

I assume the two square holes are for a ratchet if extra length is needed?

With these two tools, you can clamp, and band nearly anything. Rack boots, Cv boots, fuel hose clamps, nylon line clamps.. Great tool. Just get yourself an assortment of cv boot clamps and you are good to go forever .
There was a time when we used to replace cv joints, and boots, you know, actual mechanic work, now we mostly just replace axle shaft assemblies .

I love talking about tools .....

We used to sell those and the clamps when I worked at Lesco. Little different clamp though - they had ears on opposed sides you'd crimp in - not a "band" type as in Bill's pic.

Used them for hoses for lawn and pest control sprayers.

Check out the cases of Dursban I'm leaning against......those were the days......

What's scary is I looked and have a nearly identical set of pliers in my tool box.

It's like fastfredracing says, the real men are gone. Nobody bands shiet these days.

Brother works in Wooster on and off for Cleveland Clinic when not in Wadsworth There is a guitar/music shop there that has a killer "Mystery Machine" out front.

I know you asked Fred but...

I'd guess it's because you can buy axle shafts pretty cheap for modern cars. If you look at the time it takes to disassemble, clean, reassemble, pack with grease... the cost of labor to replace a boot will be about equal to the cost of an entire new half shaft.

Manufacturing labor is cheap (China) whereas repair labor is expensive (USA).

Another way China has been eviscerating our economy.
