I've seen push-mower engines that nothing came out when un-capped.
But never seen anything like that. Seems something would have been added to the oil to do that. Strange!

Yeah, my first 'vehicle' was a Jeep that had a really wasted engine as it turned out. The sludge in the lifter gallery (F-head engine) was unlike anything me and my brother had ever seen. It was like a very heavy grease, but nothing like that video.

In the town where I used to live an implement dealer had a tractor come in like that. The owner kept topping it off with STP because it kept running low on oil.

I know STP is thick but I've never seen it THAT thick.

I'd suspect somebody pulled a mean trick on the car owner...

Evidently if you use that as an oil replacement it gets thick like that. The tech stuck a screwdriver in the drain and it stuck like it went into modeling clay.

I agree, but what did they add to it to get it to gel like that?

Back in the early 1980s I was dating a chick that had turned 40,000 miles on her 1978 Mustang 2 she bought new. I asked he when she last had an oil change. She looked at me like I was joking. She had been taught to check the level, and she topped it off with whatever oil was at the 7-11 at the time. So I suggested we change the oil and filter. The oil came out like 90 weight oil and was jet black. I put on a new filter and the old one had a Ford logo on it. Added the oil and checked the level, and the oil was instantly black.
I have never seen jellied oil except in videos when it was super cold. I saw one when it was well below zero and they cut open a new can of 50 weight oil and it was jellied like that.

Fuel additives that get past the rings and contaminate the oil, and it reacts with PAO in the oil to do that.
I've heard rumors that some versions of fuel "preservatives" can also do that, but I can't confirm. Today's fuels are very goods and don't need additives. The only one i would consider is techron, and a bottle of that stuff will last me a lifetime. Last edited by sammyg2; 04-16-2020 at 09:45 AM.. |

I just buy Chevron gas all the time and don't worry about it.
BTW, that STP can is close to 3/4 full. Dad believed in it big time for his Travelall. He even had one of those toilet paper oil filters plumbed in too.

All he said was he would add a bottle when the oil got low.

No, it was a Frantz Filter. It did a good job too as the toilet paper would come out filled with stuff you'd never see in the regular filter.

I'm almost certain that something was introduced to the oil that made it turn to goo. I've seen the insides of more engines than most have seen the outside of. In my 60 years seen the results of neglect, abuse and contamination. I have never seen anything close to that. Even back in the day when paraffin wax was routinely added to engine oil to maintain viscosity.
That looks like the stuff that came out of Stretch Armstrong. Other part is you know the low oil pressure light had started flickering and then stayed on, she continued driving it.
