Concrete expansion joint ? what backyard mateiral can I use ?

In my down time, I am pouring a small pad,and walkway in my backyard . I have 5 feet that is going to be right up against the house . Block foundation wall .
I am trying to not go to the store. I have an extra bed liner mat, one of those thick rubber ones. Will a piece of that do ? Cork ?
Any other materials that I could use ? I have lots of stuff laying around . I am trying to be safe, crafty, and frugal on this one .
The pad is only 4x5.

I would use the thick rubber mat material. It won't absorb water and will give when it freezes.

The rubber mat would be what I'd use.

Any old garden hose you can use several sections of on top of one another?
