Some are mounted too high to reach comfortably. Like inserts in wood(combustible) hoods. I've done wall and remotes in these cases.

I am not a big fan of wall mounted exhaust fans. Over time they throw a layer or oil or what ever it is on the wall plus, who wants to look at that ugly thing on the wall. I always suggest roof mounted units if a remote blower is needed. Most people really don't need anything fancy like that. A regular Vent-a-hood will do. Quiet, efficient, easy to clean, and they work. No fancy badge so it doesn't match all other appliances, big deal?

There's a standard formula for the range hood to be most effective which is 30 inches above the cooking surface. any more then it starts to diminish. You big duds will bang your heads. Don't have an answer. I have installed them higher for taller folks.

Yep, my hood is 37 inches above the cook top, hence the large insert cfm etc. It is 30 inches above the raised eating area of the counter top (not that it matters other than it helps open up the view from the kitchen out into the living room).

Yep, I always suggest a wider hood instead of the same size as the cooktop

I see 4 options:
1) turn up the radio 2) replace hood 3) wear headphones 4) age. When you get older, it won't be as loud.

This maybe your most economical way to quiet that thing down. Maybe you only need an 8"? How many blowers or CFM is your Wolf hood?

I need the range hood I have, we cook a LOT. Which means smoke, grease, etc, regularly.
I will look at the silencer (but I think with the install being complete that the ship has sailed), and maybe a VFD. I am fine with a loud fan for 30 seconds when you really need it, I just want a 'low speed' that doesn't sound like a jet flying through the kitchen.
