Golf cart - gas or electric?
We are planning to get another golf cart to use on the property. We have an electric which has been great, low maintenance, and trouble free except we need to park it near the charger every night. I’m thinking about getting a gas powered cart that I can leave anywhere.
What kind of daily care and feeding does a gas cart require? What are the best brands?

Drawback to gas is you need to make sure you run good fuel or run it often enough to cycle fuel through it. Like any other small engine you risk gumming up the carb if you don't run good fuel in it. Another thing is the starter motor. There are brushes that need replaced. I researched golf carts when I was buying one for my mom to use. I ended up going with gas because I figure I can service it for them and don't have to worry about them plugging it in or the batteries running low/out on the back 40.
A family friend who sells used carts strongly suggested EZ GO as did a friend that owns a golf course. I don't recall why exactly but they both indicated they are good carts. Want me to talk to my family friend and see if I can hook you up with a deal? I'd guess with the closure of campgrounds in OH that he'll be looking to offload some inventory. I bought mine basically untouched. He checked it out to make sure it was solid. I serviced it and then gave it to my parents.

My dad had an EZ GO as his airport cart and it worked very well with regular maintenance and use. He did have to work on it periodically but he loved motors and that was his joy.
Updating an electric cart with LI batteries is another option. Excellent reliability and up to 10x the range so you only need to plug them in 1x week or so.

Dude...(LOL)...you are NOT a golf cart type of guy. At least I hope you haven't become.
Get a Kubota RTV or Deere or heck, a Kawi Mule. ![]() ![]() |

EZ Go handles better than Yamaha, Club Car, etc.. Go gas, one golf tee to the governor and they fly.

What I am looking for is another one that I can buy or build a pickup bed for. This one is perfect, but MrsWD wants it for gardening and I use it mostly as a mobile service truck. Seems like we both always need it at the same time. I don't want anything bigger than a cart. If I need weight and power I've got my tractor. We tried an ATV but it was a pain in the ass to use. You you have to climb onto it and use both hands to drive it. I only need one foot and one hand to drive the cart, leaving my other hand free to carry stuff. As I recall from my golfing days, a gas cart also just has two pedals and a steering wheel. ![]() I build this a few years ago and it is perfect for us. But both of use it a lot and scheduling "cart time" has been an issue. We need another one.

The family friend sells beds too. I'll reach out to him to see what he has available. He does custom carts with the fancy rims, lift kits and bodies and I'm guessing that's not a booming market right now.
PM me with how much you want to spend or you can post it here if you're comfortable with that. I'll ask him what he has in stock that he hasn't touched yet.

That cart looks really good.
Since you have an electric, I'd go gas. They are apparently a little bit more upfront but not to much more maintenance intensive...Cabmando would know. The only reason I bought the 6x6 Ranger was for plowing. I would be interested in a used gas powered golf cart as well - price dependent. It would fill a niche around here as well.

One thing to think about is if you were to get in a sticky situation, whether it be mud or tight quarters. Electric can be more nimble. Looks like you already have a club car. I never cared for the steering wheel placement, too high.
The maintenance crews at golf courses switched to Gators years ago, so I can only imagine there are a ton out there with utility beds.

Here's the "golf cart" I bought two years ago for $6500. I went this route because it'll hand a cart its ass climbing hills and it will haul more. The problem is, if you get something like this, Mrs WD might not be so happy with her garden cart anymore. The weird thing is, this thing wasn't much more than the price some were asking for a decent stock cart. My only problem with this thing is, it doesn't have a very light footprint. I'd like to find some wider turf tires to put on it that I can run lower air pressure in.

WD, I'll ask my friend down Springfield that owns the golf course if he has any carts he's looking to sell as well.

He Patrick! You might want to call about this one
https://www.machinefinder.com/ww/en-US/machines/7276749 With a little hillbilly engineering I'm sure you could put a roof on it. Seems like a decent deal for what it is.

My all time favorite was the Cushman Truckster. 3 wheel, 3 speed manual trans gas. I spent way too much of my teens and twenties on golf courses, both working and playing.
Like this one. https://www.bigiron.com/Lots/Cushman898530-90203WheelTruckster

Not a bad deal on this one with a back seat that flips to make a work bed. Seems like a lot of money but it has some upgrades like the back seat, headlights and taillights.

That one I posted down in Chilicothe is a pretty good deal at $2800. I paid $2500 for the one I bought my parents and that was about his cost.

You could add this to that one for 2800 and have a pretty good setup pretty reasonably. Rear seat/workbench is only $260 to add.

The add says 5 of the batteries are 2 years old and one is 1 year old. Kind of suspicious about that and I need to know more. I bought a full set of batteries last year for mine - $800.
