Working with reading glasses, how do you guys rock em?

I was always blessed with 20/20 till a few years ago . Now, I need readers for little stuff, Vin #'s, door tags, small parts work.
What a pain in the arse. Off on , off on , off on, where are my glasses? , oops broke that pair, off on off on , I slide them up on my head, back down to my eyes, . Never ending battle . In a world, where I am not supposed to touching my face, there has to be a better way .
Leaving them on constantly hurts my eyes, and from what I understand, is not good for you. I have tried different magnifications, , and have the ones that feel the best. #1
I like leaving them hang off a tether , around me neck. I'm new to this, any other good ways to deal with glasses while you work?

Oh man. Don’t I know. I finally spray painted my man card pink and got some of those librarian lanyards that go on the earpiece and around your neck. I’ve only lost/mangled/crushed 3 or 4 pairs since then.
I use my phone a lot now. I take pictures of serial numbers or part numbers that are too difficult to get into a position to see. Sometimes it takes several tries.
I needed to order filters for my mower and of course needed the model, serial number, and the blood type of the guy who assembled it in order to get the right filters.
I stuck my camera between the frame and the engine and got a picture of the info. I have literally never seen this with my own eyes, glasses or no.

Always where a shirt with a front pocket. Problem solved.

My daughter bought me a pair of....Porsche design readers. I now have two. Very light weight, good optics, and blend well with my regal proboscis.

It works if you have a pocket with a button and can wedge the glasses frame with on part on each side of the button. I don't know how many pairs of glasses I've lost from slipping out of my pocket.

CVS has these great cheaters with LED lights built in for $30. Really handy, especially with an Al Davis necklace tether

been using readers for quite some time now. i leave them around the house, office and car like an old man leaves Werthers Originals.

best concept i've seen is the magnet clip in the middle thing. haven't taken the time to find a nice pair yet.

My vision is wonderful for a old geezer. For anything but small text I am fine. I just bought some progressive lenses and wear my glasses when away from my desk. I take the glasses off to do work on my computer, or play on the forum.

It really sucks when working overhead on small detail things. Yesterday I was under the stove top vent hood trying to reassemble it. Getting my head moved to the right position to see was like the little dog statues that have their head bouncing. My head was bobbing like mad trying to focus on the detail.

My current readers/computer specs are cracked from falling out of my pocket.
I'm with WD and have been using my camera's for the really hard to read/see stuff.
I have more than a few of them, some dedicated to the garage so they can get dirty.



My distance glasses are on a lanyard since I'm always taking them on/off to take pictures.

Around the neck on a leash is convenient but it doesn't always work. If you do carpentry they catch dust while hanging. Sure, they shouldn't be if you're making dust, but....

Then when you bend over they are a bother. So, back on your head they go. Pocket is good if you can keep them there. In an open ended glasses case is best. When I started wearing glasses to read a tape I couldn't stand how the boards bent like surfboards. I wanted to take them off and beat them with my framing hammer.

I got used to that after about a year.

You can get "Rodenstock" glasses cheaper that PD, and they are the folks that make PD glasses.

Anyone find that every once in a while you'll look at something small that you wouldn't normally be able to read and find that you can read it?

I bought some pralines at a farmers market a few weeks back and read the ingredients list to my wife and was shocked because the text was REALLY small.

I do , it is odd, sometimes, I can read stuff just fine, other times, I struggle to read a menu . I think it comes down to the lighting, and the type of print .

I noticed the vision in my left eye changing when I was 40-41. By the time I was 45/46, I decided I was ready for readers.

If you like light weight glasses, these are about as light as it gets at 4.7 grams (just the frame which is titanium). My kitchen scale says the weight with lenses is 14g. They are as close as you can get to not wearing glasses while you're wearing glasses.

Yeah, I definitely have the worst time on low contrast stuff or low light, and certain fonts are harder to read than others.

I have cheap readers everywhere, drop them, break them, keep them in my car. But for real work I use progressives which I cold keep on all the time (but just need them for close-up or computer work

Mrs Choc and I wear the same readers. Must have 30 pairs of cheapies around the house, cars, boat, etc.

I just made the move to progressives.

It can have localized weirdness, but otherwise I am very happy not have to carry around another pair of glasses.

Do I wish there was a better way. I need the same type of readers for detail work. I used to keep two old set at the barn and never not had a set in my pocket. The amount of time I spent looking for glasses (I need another prescription to drive) after I set them down while working got a little stupid.

The key is that you can really tighten the "loop" holding them around your neck so they don't flop around. Need two hands to get them on, however.
