Cash + Covid

3 weeks and 3 days. we have been on lockdown.

i have gotten food togo exactly twice. the tip was the only need for cash. okay, i filled a couple of beer growlers last night and tipped cash as well. (call it 3x)

i saw a guy peeling off bills and he licked his fingers first! wow.

got me thinking. cash is dirty enough. if anything i have on me has passed by some virus19, it is my cash. i tip, and clean my hands. i am not lysol spraying my bills. i am certainly not licking my fingers for moisture. taking a healthy middle ground.

on a side note - i cant afford to-go. my heart strings tip to much. some lone wait-staff manning the curbside handoffs.

I went to our local credit union drive through and got $100 in $10 bills. When I go pick up our food I will hand them a $10 bill but a big tip on the credit card as well.

When I get the federal stimulus money my plan is to go to as many different LOCAL owned restaurants and spend it all on food and tips. The chain restaurants are just going to miss out on my money. Tonight is Friday night, and we used to go eat out. We will check around and find a local place doing take out, and leave some nice tips. I will "blow" my federal stimulus on tips and food and put as much as possible in the economy.

Haven't used any cash for a month. It is all electronic for me going along with delivery only. Tips for delivery can be added. Even friends buying food and sharing it I pay electronically.

Some of these things we do now will stick around. I think cash just lost some more of its footing. I think it is too bad. Electronic payments are convenient but there is no escaping the tax man without cash.

Last time I was in a restaurant was March 20. A local place opened on February 20 and closed March 20. Their last day they were giving out payment optional lunches to get rid of some inventory. I gave her $100 bill. Haven't been to a restaurant since.

I haven't used a ton of cash but I do have some on hand. I have ordered twice and paid both times with cash and gave a really good tip.

I am eating a lot healthier since I don't have the commute etc and can take the time to cook more.

I got cash before things got interesting. Part of that was a bunch of $1s and $5s, and left them sitting since. I figured if I had to pay for something or tip, I would just pay with cash and not take any change back. I also got extra cash for any 'deals' that may appear.

After the last "shaker" we had here in So Cal I went and got $2k in 5's and 20's to put in the earthquake kit. ATM's are no bueno when the power is out and cash is King.

Haven't dipped into it yet, didn't eat out before this fracas and don't plan on starting now. We have enough food, ingenuity and cooking talent that there's no need to order out.

Although if I don't cut back on the grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon I'm going to be one of those guys tooling around the grocery store on a scooter before this thing is over.

We have stopped receiving, getting or giving cash as a precaution to us and others. All done with credit cards online, over the phone, Venmo, PayPal etc. After COVID we may stop using it forever.

I have given cash 3 times recently and when only coin change was due, I said keep it. When there were bills coming back I said drop them in the bag.

Who are you ranting at this time?

Use cash, get hands contaminated, open car door and steering wheel with contaminated hands which can last 5+ days. Open door to house with contaminated hands and THEN wash hands? Little late unless you will go back and Clorox everything you touched since handling cash. Don’t forget your keys too.

Unless you have been living under a rock, the human immune system has no defense against COVID. But with your lack of knowledge or interest, it’s probably just a matter of time.

Rant you say?

But thanks for your virology expertise. I did not know that the human immune system has no defense against COVID.

I'm not sure that I believe you, but you do seem pretty worked up about it, so I won't challenge you on it. You seem a bit volatile right now.

You are right about being incendiary. Am not a virologist, but have two MDs in the immediate family, and five more as close friends and none of them have any doubt about lack of immunity. All of them are scared to death over this and people who aren’t will just keep this slow moving train wreck going indefinitely, or until a vaccine is created. But then we will have the anti-vaxer crazies to deal with.

Here is a bit that suggests that our immune systems will indeed mount a defense.

Quote:
Is there an immunity? How long does it last?

The good news is that it is very likely there is an immunity. This is suggested by the proximity to other viruses, epidemiological data and animal experiments. Researchers infected four rhesus monkeys, a species close to humans, with SARS-CoV-2. The monkeys showed symptoms of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, developed neutralizing antibodies and recovered after a few days. When the recovered animals were reinfected with the virus, they no longer developed any symptoms: They were immune.

We all need to do this, period. Otherwise, everyone will say "oh, I can pay a credit card bill" and what happens is Visa gets a 2 trillion dollar infusion from the government, and nothing else.

Spend your stimulus check LOCALLY, in as many places as possible, as quickly as possible. Let the money actually trickle through the neighborhood, and maybe it will do some good.

I guess I pay too much in taxes. Not entitled to a gov check. Two kids in college make me a pauper, but that’s because we pay for college rather than counting on student loan forgiveness. I guess I’m the problem. No cash for you!

Rant over.
