My grandfather enjoyed woodwork and did that. Since dad was in the Navy, I didn't get to spend enough time with my grandfather to learn any woodworking from him, but one of the focal points of memories from my grandfather was the half of his garage where he did all of his work, and his workbench and tools and stuff. I spent a lot of time playing with the tools and scrap wood.
My father enjoyed working on cars, and used to buy and flip cars with mechanical issues to make extra money when he was younger. He also taught me to fix small things around the house. I come by it naturally. I enjoy both. Dad taught me a lot of what I know. Since we were in the military and never owned anyplace we lived we never had to deal with plumbing, hvac or electrical. I had to learn most of that via books and later the Internet when I owned a home.
