It's a beautiful car, friends, with doors to match! Birch's Blacklist says this automobile was stolen, but for you, friends, the complete price, two thousand five hundred dollars, in easy monthly payments of twenty-five dollars a week, twice a week, and never on Sundays ... |

The ads I remember would have him walking the line of cars, describing each as to make/model and price, and there'd be a lot more than just one or two of them.

Gotta love Earl Scheib and that nasal voice! Gonna date myself, but I remember when the price was $29.95.
Thanks for the flashback, Sammy .

Yeah, I typo'd my og post and have corrected it. I remember my parents getting their 1950 Ford repainted at Scheib for $29.95, with "no ups or extras."

Or at least changed. 1988 version where he's featuring new cars. Less tax, license, dealer prep, transportation, etc etc etc Here's a version of his commercial where he features a bunch of used cars: Last edited by sammyg2; 04-16-2020 at 10:21 AM.. |

We had a local low life dealer that must have learned everything from Cal. He did lots of crazy stunts to get folks to the dealership. Back when I was first looking for an El Camino they had one listed in the newspaper want ads. So I went to the lot. They (honestly, no joke) had one way tire shredders on the entrance, so you could not leave that way.
I parked my 914 in a good spot and immediately they wanted my keys to move my car. I told them my keys stay in my pocket and the car is fine. They liked to move the customer cars to keep the owners there longer. They would even "loose" your keys and make you wait longer and keep the pressure selling up. I went to look at the Camino, and from 25 feet it looked like a turd. It had been in several wrecks and had been painted with a push broom. The salesman suggested we go for a test drive. The steering was horrid, and I bet the ball joints and A-arm bushing were shot. The transmission was slipping a lot and had bad shifts. The engine overheated in the two mile drive. I told them I would pay $100 bucks cash and not one cent more. They were asking some crazy price. So I walked back to my car with the salesman asking what it would take to get me into their car. I said 100 bucks. I got back to my car, took the roof off as it was a hot day, and went to the line to get out of the lot. They had a line of 5 guys in a row in chairs and umbrellas and each one asked the same what will it take, and I kept saying $100 bucks. When I got to street to leave they had to push a lever to lower the tire spikes. I told the guy with the lever if my tires are shredded I will beat him with a baseball bat. I never went back. Later I heard from a guy that stocked the vending machines in their break room. He said the salesmen had a contest going on who could get a customer the furthest upside down on a loan. It was just a game to them.

I use to see it when I watched after school cartoons. They played it like clock work daily all they way up around dinner time. Mussy cow, mussy cow. That damn tune is stuck in my head and I can still somewhat say most of the words (if you can call them words). The other is Pete Ellis Dodge, Long Beach freeway, Firestone exit, Southgate. |

TV cars were only TV cars while that commercial ran, after they went to the pack, at a higher price, he had 1000s of cars. Forgive me, I am going off urban legend, I am not privy to his business plan.
