A low life sleaze bag, that I will not mention by name without spitting on the floor, killed 168 men, women and a lot of children. The coward just lit the fuse to a giant bomb and walked away. The Alfred P. Murrah Federal building had an all glass facade, and it was easy to look in and see the kids in the day care right in front.

9:01 AM April 19th 1995 is a moment like learning Kennedy was killed, the space shuttles exploding, or the attack on NYC on 9/11. My office was 6 miles away and I was in a sturdy concrete tilt wall construction building on the far side away from the explosion. Our building shook in the boom, and I honestly figured a semi had somehow hit the back of the building. We all ran to the back, and saw nothing. They we looked outside expecting an downed airliner. We turned on the TV and we were all just stunned at the devastation. Our work stopped for the day as we were all in shock.

The only good news is the mass killer was caught by a State Trooper within an hour. The taxpayers had to spend millions of dollars on a trial, but in the end, we killed him back. Unfortunately we could not kill him 168 times. His conspirator is going to spend the rest of his rotten life in jail.

I did not lose any relatives or close friends, but a few people that I had met and knew were lost. I used to drive past the building fairly often when I used a bank that was next door.

It seem impossible to believe it has been 25 years.

I remember. It was a pointless act of destruction. Solved nothing and destroyed / terrorized many.

This is such a strong example of what happens when people become fanatics. I don't care what extreme view it is. R / D / Religious or other. Fanaticism results in socially destructive behaviors.

To quote President Bush, I strive for a kinder and gentler world.

The bombing was opposite.

Go be kind and tolerant, Pelicans.

I was at work in Tyler when I heard the news about the bombing. I went to the breakroom and changed the channel to a news feed. I was expecting a small bomb. My jaw dropped. I visit the memorial every year or so. Sobering.

Downtown OKC did grow out of the ashes.

We we’re living in Tulsa at the time (2 of our 3 kids were born there). I was in OKC two days later and remember seeing papers and trash blowing around near the OU/VA medical complex. What a nightmare for so many. Yes, 25 years went by like a blink.

25 years? It doesn't seem that long ago.

I was 30, my son hadn't been born and my two girls were just babies.
I kept think about the children in the day care centre and the people that worked in the building.

RIP to the people that perished on that dreadful day. I hope their families and friends have found peace.

My brother in law works in a shop north or Enid, OK. Over 100 miles away. It was a warm spring morning and he opened the shop overhead doors 1/2 way open to get some air. As he stood there looking out the door at the country side he could see a "pressure wave" in the atmosphere just above ground level and the overhead door rattled just a little as it hit.

For me it was nothing like low rumble of thunder, it was a very high pitched "ke-rack" followed by the rattling of the blinds in window.

I visited the Memorial in 2006 and it's extremely well done. Tough to walk around, but my memories of that visit are very peaceful.

I do want to visit again someday.

Such a tragedy.

Can't imagine what it was like for you guys near ground zero (just like 9/11)...it was horrific enough from afar.

What a lucky break the got that SOB in a routine traffic stop (as I recall) then put it all together.

It was a routine traffic stop but some cops have an inane ability to sense when someone is hiding something or is just "off".
... and I'd bet the arsehole who did this was rethinking his actions at that point.

He would have been sweating and avoiding eye contact. That would have been more than enough to raise suspicion.
It's one thing to plan something as horrible as this but actually carrying it out is something entirely different.

So yes the cop did his job well. I hope he was officially recognised for his actions.

---

Just a general question and I mean no disrespect but I wonder...

Did he ever regret what he had done? Or did he show regret somehow?

As far as I remember no regret and McVeigh wanted the death penalty, eith by firing sqaud or hanging. I forget which.

That cop was really lucky in several ways. The mass murderer had just killed a building full of people. I am always amazed how much of a chicken shicth the mass murder was. He was OK with killing little kids and employees and customers at a credit union and anyone that happened to be there, but was too much of a puzzy to shoot at an armed police officer. He had a gun in his coat, and the cop saw that and arrested him as per the video above. That bum was OK killing children, but even with a drop on a cop, was unable to look someone in the face and pull the trigger. He was just lower that dog crap to be scraped off ones shoes. Dog crap at least has a use as a fertilizer to the soil. He was more useless than that.
