Making a regular BBQ grill look like a built-in

Got some ribs slow cooking and the next thing ya know, I've got the tape measure out and making sketches.

The idea is to build a simple island surround for my ole char-broil grill to make it look like one of them fancy built-in things which are big bux.
Doesn't seem all that complicated if I can stop escalating it into a big deal in my head.
I want it to be reasonably portable and utilize most of the existing grill and doors.
First idea was to build something nice that wraps around the grill as is. Then I start thinking about taking the grill all apart and cutting it up and making it a real built in and then it gets out of control.
I'm thinking wood frame, covered in cement backer-board, covered with either tile or stone veneer and simulated granite top or such. Already talking myself out of a stainless steel countertop deal.

The 'Q" in question is an older stainless steel infra-red unit that's converted to natural gas.
Nothing special but works good and I've recently replaced the grates, emitters and burners.
I'm thinking there's a pretty good chance a pelican or three has BTDT and has some tips, maybe even come over and do it all fer free.
OK so not that last part.

I've been kicking that idea around myself but I take my grill inside after each use. I'd guess that if you look at the grill, the base can be removed from the grill itself rather than having to cut it up. I'm fairly sure that's how my Weber Summit works.

Depends on how the grill is constructed. If the bottom box is seperate, its pretty easy to remove that and the sides, and tuck it into any structure.

Wood frame construction, cement backer board, fake stone to cover. Go to a granite yard, and get a pair of pieces made to act as the table top/wings on the side. Those places have all kinds of odd pieces laying around.

You could also just tile the top.

My recommendation? Drink whisky, relax, use your grill as is, and don't do any of that crap.

Piece of cake, Sammy. Build the island out of gav. metal studs, Hardibacker board the whole thing, tile or stone and be done with it. Don't use wood. Last one I did for someone's outdoor kitchen, I convinced the owner to stucco it with steel trowel or Santa Barbara finish. Screwed wires into steel stud through Hardibacker, stucco away.

OK, sorry. I used to have one that was smaller than his. My son gave me his when he moved, but it was a 6 burner and was just too big for my wife and I. This one was my son-in-law's, but they moved to Japan so left it with us instead of C-listing it.
Again, sorry.

If you could come up with better/ taller/ wheels for the Weber Genesis gas grill, I would pay whatever you asked, no questions. The wheels on that thing drives me nuts. Always have to pick it up over the door threshold.

Put some boards underneath so the larger locking caster (rubber wheels) will clear the stainless cabinet sides. Where's my check?

I did this at our old house. Put the tank under the left side and just slid it back in there.

That's pretty much what I got in mind right there.
