The son of one of the guys at the cigar lounge was dragged by a car a few years ago and suffered a closed head injury.

They were told insurance would not cover it (Michigan No-Fault Insurance Law), but eventually Blue Cross covered the $32,000 a shot treatments in Mexico.

The stem cells are grown in a San Diego lab and though a licensing agreement with out of country clinics treatment is made - such are the laws of the USA.

They had an issue with the second of the three treatments, a doctor flew from Mexico to Detroit at no charge to see if the complications were temporary or not.

The father swears the treatments made a tremendous difference. I've met the son over a number of years and he is almost normal now, he used to be really bad.

A prison guard that got in a car accident and is having memory issues is considering treatments, the story was overhead in this context. Names of doctors and clinics and hospitals were shared. I can get more detailed information if you like, and have the father's phone number.

Stem cells have a new and futuristic sound and is "cutting edge" according to the proponents.

https://www.livescience.com/58287-unproven-stem-cell-therapy-blindness.html

They try stem cells on many parts of the body. First off, find a real medical doctor specialist in the field, and see what his treatment options are.

Be very very careful with going to some clinic and a guy in a white coat.

Talk to a real doctor with a practice in a real building like a hospital. And the part of the body being treated makes a big difference. Check out the credentials of any doctor you choose.

@ 1:11:43 in this video Joe Rogan talks about stem cel treatments for injuries. Might be NWS due to language. From what Joe describes it is like a miracle.

I will not get PARFy here just say GW set the US back decades in this game and that is all.

Here it is in a link cued up.

There is a local spine surgeon that hawks it constantly. Fortunately, he was recently convicted of fraud for kickbacks from a hospital and is about to go to pound him in the ass prison.

I know nothing about the procedure except there is a lot of room for scaminess in it.

FWIW. I know a research scientist who's specialty is cardiac cells. We discussed stem cell treatments and his opinion is the technology was not there yet. He has seen studies/performed research that shows regulation of type and amount of cells is not well controlled and can lead to other issues.

I also know a MD who has personally received treatments for DJD and he is a huge proponent of stem cell therapies.

From just an observer point of view Stem Cells for sure have potential. But it is very early in the game.

I remember the big news some 30 years ago about how Interferon was going to save us all. Now not so much. Just like gene therapy stem cells have potential, but that comes with the potential for great harm. Do you own research and talk to real doctors, and get a second opinion or third.

I just so happen to have had a stem cell injection almost 1 1/2 yrs ago, wow, time never slows done.

The injection was in my right shoulder due to a climbing accident over 40 yrs ago that ripped my arm out of the shoulder joint. The dislocation was a constant problem after so about 20 yrs ago had the dislocation fixed and when the doc finished he told me my superspinatus muscle was completely severed off, no attachment but since I was in the sweet spot of my practice , he didn't re-attach it because that was not my complaint and if he would have fixed it, my adjusting days are over.

Fast forward 20 yrs, guess what, you really do break down when you age. Now this shoulder is in constant level 7 pain 24/7 with very limited movement. The ortho's tell me total shoulder replacement, time for stem cells, have nothing to lose. I do my DD and find that going to Mexico is not the cheap way for cost, so I go to a doc in Seattle.

He takes bone marrow out of my left hip bone, adipose fluid out of my butt and blood out of my arm. They spin it all down and first inject bone marrow, then adipose and last blood platlets, two hours later I drive home.

Within 24 hours, my pain level is 3-4, within a week maybe a 1-2 only on movement. Most important, I can now sleep on that shoulder without pain. Now I have 75% movement back with sometimes 1-2 aggravated occasional pain, I can now change the radio station while driving the car without pain.

Would I do it again, in a heart beat. Is my arm perfect, no, but it is functioning within tolerable levels that I can easily live with. I still can do 20-30 push ups and press 100 lbs, no problem, at my age its all about tone not bulk. I am now 70 yrs old, stem cell injection is not covered by any insurance plan and I am glad because insurance doesn't tell the doc what and how to do it. The cost to me was 6500.00. Since I turned medicare age 5 yrs ago, I don't have secondary insurance because I take no drugs and for the most part healthy, damn, Chiropractic maybe works. What I saved in insurance premiums has more than paid for the stem cell injection with money still in the bank.

I hope this helps

When I was researching my arthritic hip, I went and saw a stem cell specialist; in my case the cartilage was too badly damaged for him to want try and sway me; the surgeon that ultimately replaced my hip told me that, while there is promise for the future, it is nowhere near ready for prime time in patients that are at the point where a hip replacement is the best option. (And, insurance in most cases will not apply........)

Good luck to both of you. Chronic pain is just the worst....

When I decided the pain was too much for me, and had my hip replaced, it was the best thing I did in many years. The surgeon said I had only bone on bone with a little blood for "lubrication" and it was past the best time to have done it.

With current technology nothing will regrow cartilage. Maybe someday. Maybe someday we will grow our own organs from stem cells and implant them in our bodies to replace the bad parts. Maybe someday. But not for a while. Maybe someday the extraterrestrials will come and cure all of our medical problems and bring world peace. Neither is likely anytime soon. But maybe someday.

Ok, I took my mother to the consultation today (and had one as well) and used the time since I posted this to research and talk to my doctor about it. Turns out that there is more too it than just injections. I'm going to give it a shot, and see what happens. I see the wellness coach on Friday, 1st treatment is July 1st.
Wish me luck..

Interesting stuff. I just saw my ortho surgeon today to get final clearance to return to normal activities after my total knee replacement 2 1/2 months ago. I asked him about stem cell replacement therapy and he allowed it is still likely years away from accepted use and that those providers are doing a "cash business" for the therapy, meaning that insurance coverage is iffy or not available. I would definitely rather have had injections over knee surgery!
