What car is this? Help with car ID.
My Dad saw this car on an old British TV show...sent it to all the members of the local British car club and no one could name it. Anyone know what it is? I could not ID it.

Yes, Lagonda.
At first I thought it might have been a Bristol but the radiator is the wrong shape. ![]()

Thanks guys.
So my interneting yielded this background: Looks like these were built 1953-1955 in coupe/convertible form. The 3-liter was continued to 1958 but in 1956-58 it was a 4 door saloon only. Lagonda started in 1906 and was purchased by Aston Martin in 1947. The company more or less folded in 1958 but Aston, as you know, used the Lagonda name as a model name on several cars since then and even revived it a couple of times as a stand alone marquis. From what I can tell these were an expensive car at the time and the body was designed by Bentley.

The engine was designed by WO Bentley, not the body which I would guess was a Tickford design as they were the in-house coachbuilders for Aston Martin

There are untold hundreds of cars in Europe that us Americans have never heard of much less seen.
Especially from the era when GB still had a major car industry.

He only used DB nomenclature on Aston, though, not on the Lagonda marque. |

The Brits have lots of desirable cars that are now orphans but they continue to use them so there's a growing cottage industry supporting these lovely old things. (Maybe not right now)
One car that's been on my "to own and enjoy" list for a long time is a Bristol. Truly bespoke and they're almost still operating. The original factory is still there and spare parts are available. The people that own and drive these cars want for nothing and they rarely sell their cars. Here's a local one that changed hands a few months ago. Regrettably there's no online record of the selling price but I'm guessing somewhere near $150,000 AU. 1966 Bristol 409 Saloon 5.2ltr V8 ![]() And a 2004 Bristol Fighter. ![]()

IIRC Bristols were one of LJK Seright's favorite cars.

So an entire British car club was stumped, and it took this Porsche site to name it in 2 minutes. Good on you, Yorkie.

He crossed over a lane of oncoming traffic to get on the grass berm.
