Where do these cars go?

Being a Bring a trailer junkie, I track a lot of cars. Cars like this, except for the mileage, used to be common on CL just a few short years ago. This car would have sold for $15K 3-5 years ago. And you would see 3 or 4 per month for sale. Now, and many cars like this, are gone from CL.

Where did they go?

13k-Mile 1994 Mercedes-Benz E320 Coupe

I think they still are out there for sale, just not making it onto BaT.

Look at the demographic of who would buy a car like that now days. Cost of repair, gas mileage, and the projected image might have something to do with it, too.

Who would buy it? Cost of repair, gas mileage, and depreciation are all huge negatives. There has to be a very small demographic that would be interested in paying more than appliance prices for this car.

E320's in particular, as you probably know, are subject to external head gasket leaks which folks let go as it just is an oil drip, until it isn't, and then it becomes a 4k repair.
More generally, the cars that are good enough to have survived the crossover point between low purchase price/high repair cost are now desirable/collectable, and the ones that weren't that good for mileage or upkeep reasons are gone, dead, c'est mort.
I really want a driver e28 but they're suffering from the same dynamic. Glad I got my 2 v12 MB's before they started to escalate.

They're out there. This particular example was scooped up by the current owner for $12k at a Porsche dealership in Kansas a few years ago.

I think a lot of the more interesting stuff from the ‘80s and ‘90s is starting to hit “collector” status. Like Syd said it’s the Radwood effect. Previously unloved old cars are being snatched up, fixed up, and held onto. It’s like air cooled 911s, not only did the prices go up but the quantity for sale went way down. I blame the collectors and speculators for that one.

In all fairness, I think CL is a shell of what it used to be. FB marketplace has seemingly killed it, and even then....FB marketplace is loaded with lots of crap that people put overly high prices on.

Honestly I hate FB marketplace. Can’t use it from your phone without installing the FB spyware battery sucking app, the search functions are crap, full of dealership spam, I think it sucks.

Von I love your cars! At some point I would love a classic MB product, considering where the Porsche market has gone they are still affordable in comparison. A W124 or W126 would be awesome.
