Thoughtful reopening analysis

Seventy dense pages, but seems to cover the territory pretty well...

Impressive compilation of data, analysis and strategy.

Not surprising I hear nothing but crickets from our more esteemed colleagues.

Nothing should have ever been shut down.

Fascinating. Oregon has tested at 5% positive fairly consistently. We seem to be somewhat in control.

I can't get Past the idea of a huge number of a symptomatic carriers. It just seems to fit.

Numbers don't show it.

If most of the people that get this show no symptoms, it makes this virus less severe than a common cold. We shut down the country over that?

The report reiterates it has a high infection rate that can (and did) overwhelm hospitals. Because of this, I don't understand this comment?

Is your comment the usual, "What's right for Chicago, isn't necessarily right for Illinois"? Having lived in Chicago for 39 years, I get it. But, there are a lot of big cities in the USA, and they needed to be shut down.

Then shut down the big cities that actually have problems and leave the rest of us alone.

If it mattered whether we shut everything down or not, California would be at least as bad as New York.

When did they finally shut down Disneyland, middle of March maybe? Where are all the dead people that got infected there? Where are all the people that went to sporting events in February and March that got sick?

I think that a different strain of this virus hit the East coast than what hit the West coast, but that is just a guess.

Given the vastly different reports of how it behaves the possibility of different strains should definitely be considered.

As long as you are OK using that model with federal taxes and federal funding. States with big cities pay more in taxes to the federal government than they get back in federal funding. Basically, blue states allow red states to exist. We can definitely leave you all alone.

Knowing what we know now, that might not be such a bad idea. I do think dividing the country by state when the states themselves are so diverse is a bad idea. The Appleknockers down in Cobden could still be working and paying taxes to support Illinois while it fights with the virus in Chicago. I'm not sure if a governor can subdivide it's state in that way though.

My rights to free assembly, free exercise of religion, and my ability to freely engage in commerce have been deprived without due process. There is at least a plausible argument that a handful of cities in the country are in a state of emergency. The rest of the country, not at all.
