satellite mapping apps
having recently moved up to the rural foothills of no cal from the bay area I am having a great time exploring forestry roads and trails in my jeep and motorcycle as of late. im looking for a sattellite based mapping app for my droid phone that will allow me to see trail maps as im out, leave bread crumbs so I can go back and apply specific notes of routes to a couple paper forestry map im maintaining.
currently im taking notes while out and photographing forestry signs on trails not taken, then consulting maps to determine future routes based on my notes and info on the paper maps. i have a free sat mapping app currently that does not offer any ability to bread crumb my routes and at time has a hard time locating me accurately on a trail. still waiting for some of the higher rated wheeling trails up the hill further to open post snow melt so im looking to get prepared with a good app. are you guys using anything like this and/or have any recommendation for a app I might consider? I would not mind paying a few bucks a month to maintain a subscription if that's what it'd take to find a good one with some of the features ive mentioned and maybe some I have not considered yet. what ya got? TIA

It sounds like you really just need a GPS. A cell phone relies of a decent signal, and does not have a map if you can't get reception. Most GPSs will let you mark a point of interest and it tracks your path.
It will depend on how deep (budget) you want to go with it. A laptop, with a good GPS connected and USGS maps downloaded at home would be great. I am sure there is a forum for it somewhere out there. THe real mapping software gets spendy real fast. Global Mapper is a great program, but not super user friendly and not real cheap.

Oh - you aren't looking for a Mapping app to track Satellites - you're looking for a Satellite based Mapping app!
I can't help you beyond Google earth.
