How often do Bond movies come out - every 3 years? That's about as often as I go...

Love going to movies; the big screen, the sound, the smells, the (now) updated menus and drinks. Before retirement, we went 2-3 times a month - post retirement, distance has made it like once a month, coupled with trips to Home Depot and grocery store. When we go now, T-TH mornings, we're lucky to see 6-10 people in the theater....was social distancing before it was popular....now.

It was weird to see a full bar open at the theater. Popcorn is marked up to crazy expensive. I can't imagine what a cocktail must cost. Is a margareta $40 bucks?

My understanding is that:
After the cost of negotiated media-distribution leasing contracts....the theaters actually only make 'real money' off in-house concessions.

The price problem might not be with the local theater gouging.

Nah
Now drive in movies. I get fancy with that one.

That's what I miss. We'd grab a slot next to an empty slot and plop our chaise lounges down.

Cinemas will never disappear totally. The experience will become much less routine and become ‘special’ almost like live stage performances are now.

Cinema will reach some sort of equilibrium, eventually.

The giant screen, the giant sound, the azzholes, the burgers and beer afterwords, the hassle involved and the expense can never be duplicated at home.

Before Corona, tickets were six bucks. I like a Sunday 4 O'clock matinee, and my wife thinks it is a date. If it has been a busy weekend, I'm done by 4 anyway.
