Wireless Repeater

Always nice to find something that works great, easy to install, and cheap. ($27)
Second one of these I've had. Last year I forgot and left it outside thru the winter..and discovered it was dead last Thurs.
New one came today..5 minute hook-up.
My deck is about 50 feet from the router and it was always tough to get a good signal through the house walls...especially when windy.
With-out the repeater...maybe 2 bars out of five on signal strength. (on a good day)
With the repeater...always 5 bars
It will even stream Prime Movies with no stopping anywhere in my back yard.

Why does the wind affect the strength of your wireless signal? Does the repeater move, thick wind, ??????.

There are small trees (arborvitae) between the indoor router and the deck. I think that the moisture in them, combined with moving in the wind, affects it. That's just my guess, but I do know that when it's windy...the signal will drop out.
With the repeater, it doesn't.
I installed the repeater so that it gets the signal from the router in a clear halfway point. Then when using the signal, it comes from a clear area where the repeater is. Kinda like making the wifi do a right angle...lol

The directions are typical Chinese translation. The one I did last year took a little longer because I didn't know what AP install was and I used that...mistake.
If just trying to extend your wi-fi....use the repeater install.

For outdoor install..I use a small clear plastic container to protect it from the rain.
Plus you will need a 110 outlet nearby. (or a light ext cord)

Very nice!

Can I use two? One on my basement and one in the upstairs? Will they conflict?

^^^ They shouldn't conflict. Each will have the same ssid name and same password.
Once connected, your device will remember the password.
It's no different than buying a stronger/longer range router.

Glad the repeater is working for you. It’s definitely an inexpensive option. I had issues with the transition between the main network and the repeater, and I was constantly in the less ideal network.

Went with a mesh router system (Eero) instead. Ymmv

If anyone has problems with the install...ask here first.
After doing two of them in two years...I think I understand the chinese directions.

I've used the cheap repeaters for 4g. They work for a month or so, and burn out.
I've heard the wilson repeaters are top dog in this market. Can't justify 1k.

^^^ The first one I had worked for 9 months, but 10 below temps are hard on them.
Even if I have to replace it every year (because I forget to bring it in), $27 won't break me.

$27 and I've used it all summer with no hiccups.
Today it's streaming netflix and my tablet is showing the nfl game.
It has worked flawlessly all summer. If I forget to bring it inside for the winter..no big deal.
