When pumping gas, at what number do you stop?
Pet Peeve of mine, I have to round up and finish at an even number for amount of gas.
$15.55 or $16, not $15.42 or where ever the pump stops at. Who else has the same quirk  |
i dont even look anymore. i'm too busy judging peoples bad hygiene habits right now.
|
Wherever it stop is good enough for me.
|
I used to round it up …..but got tired of splashing gas on me.
Now I just stop where it stops. Plus it says that on the sign. You must obey the sign! |
I look at the gallons, not dollar amount.
|
I used to try to stop at a nice round number long ago when I reconciled my accounts by hand. I have been using Quicken since the 1980s and I just download all transactions pretty much any day I venture out. Click a few buttons, make sure they are my charges and nothing bogus, and click accept. Done in seconds and balanced to the penny.
I quit caring about the price or the amount of gas I buy long ago. I just fill er up, and go. Gas is so cheap right now it is hard to believe. |
right, since i quit paying cash i quit looking. i used to do it solely to prevent a pocket full of cambio.
|
I try to stop at a catchy number, like $38.99 or $42.22, so when I see it on my credit card I’m pretty sure it was me using the card.
|
OCD much?

In the past, I always just rounded up to the nearest dollar. I think I've stopped doing that in the last 4-6 years. Now I just wait until the pump kicks off.
|
Just a tick too late , right after it spits back out the filler neck at me . At least in my diesel . Big foamy mess, right on my shoe

When pumping gas, at what number do you stop?
Coming from the land of full-serve, this was a pet peeve of mine when gas was right around the $1 mark and before the prevalence of credit cards for everything.
More than once i had to tell the attendant to knock it off when the pump stopped at $20.25 and he wanted to shove another 3/4 gallons into the tank to avoid making change with coins. |
I'm too busy cursing at "gas station tv" to care about the numbers. Can't even turn off the sound on some of them now. Oh- Look Mariah Carey has a new christmas album. Hey gas station tv- got any quick karate tips for this indigent guy holding his wanker and yelling at me from the sidewalk? Nope? Just a Techron ad? Thanks for nothing! Eff' you gas station TV!!!!!!!

Timely thread....I put .02 worth of gas down the side of my truck this morning. Pump stopped at xx.88....12 more should be easy peasy...but nooooo :D!

Oregon law forbids self pumping. I do request that the tank be topped, and sometimes the kid will comply.
On the plus side of this law, it probably reduces the number of credit card skimmer gadgets. On the negative side, I don't have a clue how to use today's pumps...guess I should watch more carefully for when/if I go out of state. |
It depends for me...
Most of those gas stations have the rewards programs now, so I use one of them on my diesel pickup. I wait until the tank is empty and then use the points I have hoarded up (for example I am sure I am up to $.60 off per gallon now) and put every single ounce of cheap fuel in that I can. I have not filled it up since at last the first week of march and still have 3/4 of a tank. For the VW, I just go until it stops or I get gas splashed all over me. For the 911, the same thing, don't want gas all down the side of it. For motorcycles I can tell by the sound. I usually go balls to wall and pull the handle all the way for the first few gallons then slow er up. If I am on a road trip on the bike my goal is to get the max gas in as possible as I have been out in the boonies on fumes and it can get stressful. |
Man, this is funny, I used to do it too but after a few months of driving, I gave up and don't even noticed anymore. I thought I was the only OCD weirdo.
|
Depends on when it stops.
Which is closer? Dollars or gallons? However, many times I barely look. But not always. |
When I fill up a customer's car at work, I'll try and let the pump stop at a number like $49.99 to frustrate the office girls.

I drove to Oregon several years ago. Didn’t know about that law either. I thought it was some panhandler trying to get me to pay him to pump my fuel.
I said “I got it”. His jaw dropped, then he recovered and said “Ah, sir, I see you’re from out of state...” then explained. We had a good laugh. I apologized to the guy. Said it happens quite often. |

Got it worked out but left a bad impression. |
Is that a trick question? I pump it until it clicks off. Pretty simple.
|
Oregon law forbids that the tank be topped off.
during the virus outbreak you can pump your own gas |
