You ever utilize “your money back guarantee “ for something small?

I was looking at my bottle of Downey Fabric Softener. It says my money back if it’s not what I expected. Seriously? If I hate it, I’m dumping it. I’m not boxing it up and sending it back to the land of spring fresh air.

I bet a box of cold breakfast cereal has a money back guarantee.

Anyone?

Nope.

Had a set of batteries - I think Eveready brand - that disentegrated and leaked in a small portable black and white TV. Ruined the housing and contacts for the batteries. I sent them the damaged TV and they sent me back a comparable model for free.

I remember when I was a kid, some candy bar had a satisfaction guarantee, but you had to send the remainder back- shipping would be more than the price of the bar!

I’ve returned a few low cost items to Costco if they weren’t what I expected. No hassles and no shipping charges. I felt funny about returning a food item that tasted terrible, but they refunded my money, no questions asked.

It’s a good-sounding but pretty much meaningless statement kind of like “up to 50% off” or “lifetime warranty”. It’s all marketing rubbish and I don’t make decisions based on any of it.

Last time I remember was I returned two packages of Chicken breasts to Ralph's. They were still in date and quite stinky.

They asked if I wanted an exchange. I said I don't trust the meat department now.

I bought some nuts and small bolts and plastic plugs at the local Ace Hardware. I knew going in that one of the plugs was not going to the be perfect fit for my needs, but the other one would. It was about 50 cents or something insignificant. The clerk was trying hard to get me to sign up for Ace Rewards for my $2 purchase. I declined and then told her to keep the receipt. She mentioned I would need the receipt to get a refund. I told her it cost more than 50 cents per mile to drive most any car, and it is several miles and in heavy traffic. It would take me 25 minutes of my time and a few bucks of car expense to return a 50 cent item. Not gonna do it.

I think that's probably about it. Food from grocery stores. But not in the sense that vash asked the original question. (Do I spend too much time here when I can tell it's vash who started the thread just by reading the title?)

Downey - and others - can get valuable product & customer info from returns.

They often do not require a return, but just want info and maybe a pic. They may send you a coupon or a card with a couple of bucks on it.

I'm sure they will eventually use an e-payment system.

I'd never use a fabric softener tho.

I sometimes return things if I think the co. can improve with the feedback - e.g. a $12 potato masher that crumpled.

I used to work at a retail parts place. I once had a guy come in wanting a refund on a can of wax (old timey style, short, wide can with lid like a paint can and a round sponge applicator). The can said "if you aren't satisfied, then return this to the place of purchase for a full refund." Or something very close to that. The can was completely empty. I'm not sure if he waxed a dozen buses or just scooped everything out into another can and then wiped the inside out with the applicator. I gave him a little crap refusing to refund the money until he called the manager over.

I knew we were going to refund the money. I think the deal was if they wanted to scam us, we would make them work for it and deal with our crap until they called the manager over. I think the manager appreciated it too.

Scammers suck

Doggie chew toys for Ed. He is now restricted to nothing but hard rubber toys, like from Kong. The "indestructible" toys that have squeakers in them, that look like cats, rabbits, raccoons, possums, and the like get destroyed in very short order. His all-time record, from purchase to return, was less than 45 minutes. The young lady behind the counter protested at first, until I showed her the time stamp on the receipt. Then she asked if she could hire Ed as a "product tester"...

nice Golden!

My first Golden tore up a golf ball in seconds - my mother didn't think he "could possibly" do it

my current Golden gets a small Kong with kibble in it - the intellectual stimulation is good for him and amuses me

Yes, Ed can skin a golf ball in very short order. A tennis ball even faster. That's why his tennis balls are put away until we can play together - he just can't be trusted.

His favorite ball, though, is his "zoo toy" from Duluth Trading Company - "a favorite of zoo keepers, for lions and tigers and bears oh my...". Indestructible. Plus, you can fill it with enough water to bring it up to about 30 pounds. Great workout for him. I'm just waiting for it to come through the back door, though...

We always buy Zavita coffee beans from Costco. One day the Organic version was on sales so we decide to get it. It was awful, so took it back and she mentioned that anything we buy and don't like just bring it back.

For sure...

On of my Thursday night concoction, "you are on your own dinner" (the wife can not even stand the smell) is hot pepperoni cubed in Knorr (use to be Lipton) Fettuccine Alfredo Side Dishes.

So one Thursday night, I start with the side dish and all the noodles were white, no green noodle. So knowing as Defence supplier that re-work cost a bundle, I call them, they were happy I did, ask for the Production Date, were I bought it and so on.

A few weeks latter I got a dozen of coupon in the mail (that is almost 3 months of concoction).

I have purchased and returned over 200 avocados from Vons at Sand Canyon and Soledad. These were purchased 3 at time or the bunch packaged in the green net. Bought, went home, cut some open and brown/ black mush yuck. Some of these even appeared under-ripe based on the hardness test.

That store hates me but avocados are not cheap. I stopped buying them at that location. I have brought milk cartons direct from the store refrigerator to the managers desk as a courtesy and to shame them that were 2 months past expiration and cartons bulging.."here this is for you".

Money back guarantee you betcha!

That's right. And he hasn't returned one yet - he always gets his money's worth, one way or another.

I remember once there was an ad' on TV about roof paint with a 25 year guaranty. I was a bit suspicious so I looked at the small print. In 25 years you came back with your recite. if ten per cent of the paint had fallen off the roof they would give you one liter of paint per ten liters put on the roof. And if you are that miracle person who did claim they have had the use of your money for 25 years.
