Bucolic bell ringing scenes from 60's movies
Last night we watched the Sound of Music.
Lots of bell ringing. Got me thinking of 'The Graduate' bell ringing (it was America, but what the heck...) Which got me thinking of the bell ringing in Kelly's Heroes. Which got me thinking of the bells ringing in the original Willy Wonka movie. A lot of bells rung in these movies. There was something about how the 1960's /early 70's bells rang in these movies which speaks to me. Usually European bell ringing, but not necessarily. Can't really explain it. I don't know if it was how the movies were edited, or the technology of the time, but it really has a characteristic "it" to it. Makes me very nostalgic. ![]() Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 05-22-2020 at 03:56 PM.. |

My church had a huge bell choir growing up in the 60-70's. Never hear about them now.

Seemed like bells were a part of life years ago. In 1900 they regulated your life. In 1960, they told you it was time for church. They were a backdrop for life, so they would fit into a movie seamlessly. Now we don't have much use for them, and they seem odd in a movie, retrospectively.

Just a few weeks ago, the town my high school was in, rang all its chruch bells to show appreciation for all our health workers . It was beautiful .
When I am working at the rentals on Sunday's , all the churches chime in unison at noon . Like you said, just something about it It takes me back to a simpler time

I do miss campus life where the bells rang and then played songs at lunchtime.

Same here. Our local parish uses recorded bells and it just ain't right. A long time ago she who was my wife and I lived in NH near Dartmouth. We'd spend weekend afternoons on a patio overlooking a Green drinking wine and munching goldfish crackers. Those bells were just glorious.
