New Podcast: ANT ANSTEAD OF WHEELER DEALERS/MASTER MECHANIC – THE PASSION BEHIND THE WORK Ant Anstead hosted me in his garage (Pronounced “Gare Edge”) for a sit down about his career, his current projects, and the real passion behind the work. We talked about overcoming adversity, the “solace” of being in the garage and making something from scratch, as well as making the leap from a police officer to a coach builder and TV Host. He’s a “yes” man…meaning he’ll say yes to an opportunity without knowing the outcome. He just does it because he’s passionate about it. So far, this mentality has fared well for his personal life and his career. Do you have a son/daughter that’s a petrolhead? (Gearhead to us yanks) Get Ant’s book “Petrolhead Parenting” from his Instagram Page. I saw the next two episodes of his show last night. I also saw the first episode of mike Brewer's new show.
Ant - four, Mike - zero. On wheeler-dealers, I liked the technical details and did not care for all the touchy-feely stuff. Thankfully they've now separated the good from bad. |
I have been watching his new show as well where he is constructing his own car, very entertaining. I really like his "don't overthink it, just forge ahead" attitude. Saw a brief clip of mike's show where he was striping some ridiculous lowrider.
|
BTW didn't know he was a police officer before quitting and going into the car biddness.
Now I gotta wonder if he quit the po-po to build cars or ?? |
Is he related to Adam Ant? Does he get mistaken for Adam or a relative of Adam’s?
|
Wasn't Adam Ant a cartoon character decades ago? I never figured it was the musician's real name.
edited: LOL...Stuart Leslie Goddard ;) another edit: Atom Ant....doh! |
shouldn't the show be named wheeler dealers with ant instead ??
|
Do we get a second round of questions with this guy?
Or was this a one shot deal? |

Did you listen to the interview? We talked about that extensively. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I will probably interview him about car stuff for my YouTube channel at some point. It wasn’t specifically a car guy interview. It was more about his entrepreneurial journey from being a police officer to being a presenter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I listened to it. It did tend to wander from a car interview a bit.
I guess I am always astounded at the general public in general. It just astonishes me that anyone would send threats to his or Mike and their family over the replacement of Edd China with Ant. It is just a TV show. I liked Edd, and I do enjoy the reruns with him in it. I was skeptical of the FNG but I had seen some of his work on other British car shows. I quickly discovered he is a very talented and personable guy on TV. The format change that Edd objected to and quit over is a bit annoying, and they explain some things that most anyone trying to work on cars at home already know. Maybe they dumbed it down some. He does great at the explaining things. I still wish they showed more of the actual repair and engineering of fixes. I have long said I wish I had a Edd or Ant type of guy that lived next door to me. I have had to use my limited talents to just do it myself. I do know my talent limits. |
I’ve enjoyed the new WD as much as the last. They were doing a 924 and the wur was wonky according to test pressures. He took the wur off told how it worked, pulled it apart showed what was
a miss fixed that then actually made it adjustable. Made it look simple |

I was also curious about how they already seemed to know so much about repair procedures for each car they did. Mike said, and Ant confirmed in the interview, that they have researchers on staff that check it all out beforehand. It was interesting to learn that they worked on eight cars simultaneously. Quote:
Other than the fact that, at first, the interviewer did more talking than his guest, I enjoyed that podcast and found Ant to be quite an interesting guy. |
