Interviewing Ant Anstead...any questions?

Interviewing Ant on my podcast later today. Any questions for him?

stealthn 05-22-2020 10:51 AM

Ask him when he started dating that blonde from the flipping houses show :D

GH85Carrera 05-22-2020 10:57 AM

What was his first car that he bought with his own money, and what car does he drive now as a daily driver?

pete3799 05-22-2020 11:06 AM

Why is he named after an insect?

jrj3rd 05-22-2020 11:07 AM

Ask him if I can borrow Agnes next time I am in Cali

GH85Carrera 05-22-2020 11:14 AM

What single car was the hardest to repair?

his name is Anthony. And he's from the UK. Pretty standard abbreviation there I think.

Sarc 05-22-2020 11:55 AM

Please ask him if he has any family in Chile.

jorian 05-22-2020 12:05 PM

What part of a project does he like most? Paint, interior, engine, suspension? He seems to have mad skills in all of em.

Are they ever going to do a motorcycle project?

MBAtarga 05-22-2020 12:06 PM

Ask him what he thinks about when Ed was the wrench on the show.

MBAtarga 05-22-2020 12:07 PM

Ask him how many 10mm sockets he's lost.

sammyg2 05-22-2020 12:32 PM

LOL you can ask him why they spent 20 minutes on his show covering something as basic and simple as sandblasting a frame, and only 5 minutes on repairing and installing the front suspension.

My guess is they got the sandblasting fer free ........

Still .... I'm a fan.

john walker's workshop 05-22-2020 12:48 PM

Yeah, that was overkill. Cut to the chase.

Norm K 05-22-2020 01:33 PM

Who's Ant?

rockfan4 05-22-2020 02:05 PM

Probably too late, but you could ask him how to tighten the bolts for a center stand on a Triumph.

This can be the last. Is this a serious question?

New Podcast: ANT ANSTEAD OF WHEELER DEALERS/MASTER MECHANIC – THE PASSION BEHIND THE WORK

Ant Anstead hosted me in his garage (Pronounced “Gare Edge”) for a sit down about his career, his current projects, and the real passion behind the work. We talked about overcoming adversity, the “solace” of being in the garage and making something from scratch, as well as making the leap from a police officer to a coach builder and TV Host. He’s a “yes” man…meaning he’ll say yes to an opportunity without knowing the outcome. He just does it because he’s passionate about it. So far, this mentality has fared well for his personal life and his career.

Do you have a son/daughter that’s a petrolhead? (Gearhead to us yanks) Get Ant’s book “Petrolhead Parenting” from his Instagram Page.

My mother sat next to him on a flight to Europe and said he was a very nice young man.

I saw the next two episodes of his show last night. I also saw the first episode of mike Brewer's new show.

Ant - four,
Mike - zero.

On wheeler-dealers, I liked the technical details and did not care for all the touchy-feely stuff.
Thankfully they've now separated the good from bad.

Eric 951 05-28-2020 02:30 PM

I have been watching his new show as well where he is constructing his own car, very entertaining. I really like his "don't overthink it, just forge ahead" attitude. Saw a brief clip of mike's show where he was striping some ridiculous lowrider.

sammyg2 05-28-2020 02:30 PM

BTW didn't know he was a police officer before quitting and going into the car biddness.
Now I gotta wonder if he quit the po-po to build cars or ??

MRM 05-28-2020 02:50 PM

Is he related to Adam Ant? Does he get mistaken for Adam or a relative of Adam’s?

KFC911 05-28-2020 02:52 PM

Wasn't Adam Ant a cartoon character decades ago? I never figured it was the musician's real name.

edited: LOL...Stuart Leslie Goddard ;)

another edit: Atom Ant....doh!

RWebb 05-28-2020 03:00 PM

shouldn't the show be named wheeler dealers with ant instead ??

LEAKYSEALS951 05-28-2020 03:02 PM

Do we get a second round of questions with this guy?

Or was this a one shot deal?

Did you listen to the interview? We talked about that extensively.

I will probably interview him about car stuff for my YouTube channel at some point. It wasn’t specifically a car guy interview. It was more about his entrepreneurial journey from being a police officer to being a presenter.

Not yet, but plan to.

GH85Carrera 05-29-2020 11:57 AM

I listened to it. It did tend to wander from a car interview a bit.

I guess I am always astounded at the general public in general. It just astonishes me that anyone would send threats to his or Mike and their family over the replacement of Edd China with Ant. It is just a TV show. I liked Edd, and I do enjoy the reruns with him in it. I was skeptical of the FNG but I had seen some of his work on other British car shows. I quickly discovered he is a very talented and personable guy on TV.

The format change that Edd objected to and quit over is a bit annoying, and they explain some things that most anyone trying to work on cars at home already know. Maybe they dumbed it down some. He does great at the explaining things. I still wish they showed more of the actual repair and engineering of fixes.

I have long said I wish I had a Edd or Ant type of guy that lived next door to me. I have had to use my limited talents to just do it myself. I do know my talent limits.

Les Paul 05-29-2020 12:04 PM

I’ve enjoyed the new WD as much as the last. They were doing a 924 and the wur was wonky according to test pressures. He took the wur off told how it worked, pulled it apart showed what was
a miss fixed that then actually made it adjustable. Made it look simple

I once had the opportunity to talk a bit with Mike Brewer about WD and asked if Edd or Ant actually did all the work on the project cars themselves. He said that if the particular task needed to be repeated...like say re-doing the brakes...Edd or Ant would do one corner for the video, then the rest would be handled off-camera by others.

I was also curious about how they already seemed to know so much about repair procedures for each car they did. Mike said, and Ant confirmed in the interview, that they have researchers on staff that check it all out beforehand. It was interesting to learn that they worked on eight cars simultaneously.

I don't understand the hate coming at Ant and Mike from viewers either. People are so weird. I liked Edd while he was on the show, but I also like Ant. I actually think that Ant's a more experienced wrench and certainly a more skilled fabricator than Edd is.

Other than the fact that, at first, the interviewer did more talking than his guest, I enjoyed that podcast and found Ant to be quite an interesting guy.
