Stimulus Check

I received my virus stimulus check at least two weeks ago.
Today, I get a letter from the potus saying I'm going to get a CARES act payment for the same amount. Is this a second payment or just a late letter?

Late letter. Look at the date.

May 6...the CARES act statement confused me. Thanks Baz

Typical.
Why send the letter and check together and pay postage once, when you can pay postage twice?
It's just taxpayer's money, after all....

stevej37 05-23-2020 10:50 AM

^^^ But now I have a letter with his signature on it. Might be worth a lot later. (esp if we have another tp shortage)

I received mine via direct deposit back in the middle of April (as I recall), then the letter showed up around the first of May.....no double dipping :D. Couldn't figure out why my parents (and most folks they knew) didn't have theirs deposited back then (IRS/SS has their acct. info)....but they received checks via mail within the past week. A total fuster cluck sending them out imo.... and none of us "needed" it either. I tip a LOT more with it fwiw...grocery deli workers, take-outs, drive-thru windows, etc.

Have you ever really given any serious thought to why, as a country....we are in debt?

Forget all the politics. And I mean it.

It's the year 2020 and we are in debt.

It's mind boggling.......why this isn't at the top of everyone's concern.

Sorry for the thread drift...

I'll take that as a compliment (?) :D

It won't hurt us, Baz, we're too old.

I feel for my kids and their kids though. They will have to live with it.

This country is SO screwed. It can appear to be vote buying in a sense, but it is a last ditch effort of a dying financial system. System crated back in Sept. 2019 and this is the result.

It's not like we stopped producing cars and planes so we could produce war planes and tanks, while sending millions of men (on US payroll) to go break stuff in other countries for a few YEARS!

It's not like we had Amazon and Google server farms blown up...

I get the Eeyore fun of claiming that we are all doomed (or domed) But that is just not true.

(some) People got govt checks to shore up the flow of money. That's it.

I have no problem with trying to make the disruption to the economy have as little impact as possible in the hopes of this being a "hiccup" vice a long-term trend. That said, they should have either given it to everyone (if stimulus) or only increased unemployment (if for the unemployed)...instead, they chose to make it income-based social welfare (just another wealth redistribution scheme) when they based it on previous income.

island911 05-25-2020 08:13 AM

Yeah, I know... But then again, maybe we will save $1200 worth of time in not responding to the it's not FAIR that rich people got money too dolts. ;)

I assumed that was the rationale...but I still don't like it.

If you made over ~100k (AGI) in 2018 (~195k for a couple) then no check for you.
