IIRC, all of the NZ salmon are farm-raised from the Pacific.

Well, all of the fresh-caught upper PNW salmon that is...with my personal experience (and bias) being Kings caught in the mouths of certain rivers, and off the coast of AK.

I don't know why Mom is so in love with the smoked stuff from mail order. The last stuff she got was a Mothers Day present from her daughter-in-law and she gave it to me to give to my dogs because "it's the cheap stuff and doesn't taste very good."

Hence the purpose of the thread.

Maybe I should make some of the salmon for her myself that I usually get locally and see if that suffices.

I gotta also tell my sister-in-law to quit sending her that "cheap stuff that doesn't taste very good."

Completely different flavor and texture to the west coast US variants. I prefer the Scottish - its smooth and glossy and full of flavor.

I think you are thinking of the Fish Keg The Fish Keg That's on Howard Street. Both places have been in business for a very long time.

Quick update.....

I just finished cooking some Atlantic Salmon I picked up at Walmart. It was less than $7!

Pan fried in butter - which is how I've always cooked my salmon.

As always it was ABSOLUTELY delicious!

No...it wasn't smoked. But for my Mom - I think it will fit the bill for her and this will be my solution for now.

There are many different ways of cooking it but salmon is salmon.

EDIT: I forgot to mention - I rinsed it off really well and let it dry before cooking. Also seasoned it well with Everglades seasoning.
